Book cover for Carmilla by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu. The cover depicts Carmilla leaning her head against Laura's while she embraces her, Laura doesn't shy away from Carmillas touch but seems shy to reciprocate. They're framed by a red pointed arch, a devil and an angel and some baroque ornaments.

Two illustration

On the left: A knight, inspired by the painting "The Fallen Angel" by Alexandre Cabanel.
On the right: Study of "Narcissus" by Caravaggio, using my character Narcisa as the model. A blonde woman, wearing a white dress inspired by greek peplos, looking at her own reflection on a calm lake. In the reflection two hands seem to be either embrassing or strangling her.

Another 1 star review that reads:

I've had cheese pizza by-the-slice there a bunch of times, its been solid for a slice. I've always had a good experience with the younger guys there, sometimes chatting about the european soccer that's always on the TV.
Walked in today and asked "Does the [by-the-slice] meatball pizza have pork in it?" That's the only thing I said.
The old man at the register to my right smirked and quickly said "Everything has pork in it. If you are that much of a Muslim this is not the right place for you. If you are that religious, this is not the right place for you."
I simply walked out. Even giving the very-difficult-to-believe benefit of the doubt that his intention was to communicate there is cross-contamination risk, his delivery was rude at best, and at worst religiously discriminatory against a customer whose faith he only presumed.

Another review, another story, another instance of Islamophobia.

Ugh this makes me feel sick 😠 bc not only is this NOT OKAY but that makes this man’s bigotry a pattern.

Today, I want to share an extremely distressing and disturbing event that occurred to us in Sorrento's pizza. I have been living in Acton-Boxborough for around 14 years now. My son joined the school system when he was in third grade and graduated college last year. My daughter who was born when we moved to Acton, is now at RJ Grey.

Acton-Boxborough has always been a safe, welcoming environment & a place that we call home. We are also Muslims and that factored in today's event that happened around half an hour ago.
I went to Sorrento's with my 14 year old daughter, a friend, her 2 college aged daughters and her autistic 6 year old son. My friend has also lived in Acton for a very long time, though she has recently moved but her girls went through the Acton-Boxborough school system and graduated from our high school before going on to college.

My friend's autistic son was difficult today, he cried alot, was loud and made a fuss. The restaurant was relatively empty so we stayed and his mom was trying to help him control his emotions.

To cut a sad story short, the owner of Sorrento's was verbally abusive to us. He called out saying, you should know I touched all your food with pork. He cursed Islam and Muslims ( my friend and one of her daughter wear hijab and so he guessed correctly that we were muslims). He said things like " I hate Allah" (which is so ignorant, since Allah just means God), he said something using curse word in Arabic, but because its so terrible, I will not repeat it.He cursed at my friend's autistic child and told us he didn't want us Muslims to return to his restaurant again. A policeman came by, by coincidence as the officer later told us, but Sorrento's owner told my friend that (screenshot cut off, continued in next one).

A policeman came by, by coincidence as the officer later told us, but Sorrento's owner told my friend that he had called the police on us.
That police officer was a godsend, he told us that he would document this incident, and that we could access it.
We were all shaken and stunned, my daughter was sobbing and we were all fighting tears.
I have heard of horrible incidents happening to people because of their religion or color but never, in my experience has anything like this happened to anyone I knew in Acton-Boxborough. It also made incredibly angry that he spoke badly about an autistic child.
At the time, we stayed on because his restaurant was basically empty but we did start to leave prematurely because the family recognized they needed to take their child home.
My heart is heavy today and I am extremly sad. This man ruptured the safety and serenity my daughter was surround by in Acton-Boxborough and exposed her, too early, to racism, islamophobia and abelism.
My friend's girsl kept saying " Sorrento's was our favorite place to hang out in high-school".
We are not letting this go, for the sake of our girls, we have to restore somehow a feeling of safety once more.
I would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you and I apologize for the long post.

A 1 star review that reads:

I've been coming to this place ever since I was a kid. Theres photos of me from nearly 2 decades ago on the TV. Sorrentos has supported so many school events and other things. I truly considered them a pillar of the community.
However, recent incidents of racism, Islamophobia, ableism, xenophobia, and other bigotry from staff towards my neighbors and community members has soured my love for this place.
I will not be eating here again, and suggest that yall do the same. I'm so so so disappointed and disgusted. Shame on you!

The owner responded:

(In Arabic) [Thanks]

[God] (continued in English) must like our pizza regardless of what you say. If you find a better tasting one, bring us a slice please.
You may also want to tell your friends not to abuse their children in my store.

Recently, in local news, my hometown of Acton MA’s former-favorite pizza/pasta joint has come under scrutiny from the community after a Muslim family was harassed with Islamophobia and ableism.

I left them a 1 star review and THIS is how the owner responded.

Holy fucking shit.

Comic. I’m at my desk, leaning over to the doorway, saying “Hey! Foghorn! Foghorn Leghorn! Get in here!”
Foghorn Leghorn is walking past the doorway, “Boy, I tell ya, I tell ya, not so loud, boy. What, I say, I say, what d’ya want?”
Next panel, I’m gesturing to my computer. “How do I find that really good manga you recommended? It’s an anime now? I keep getting Halloween costumes.” Foghorn leans over my chair, “well, boy, I say, I say, you ain’t typin the entire title.”
Last panel, I turn around- “you said ‘witch hat.’ Foghorn gets in my face- “open your ears, boy!! ‘Witch Hat Atelier, I tell ya! I tell ya ‘Atelier,’ I tell ya’”
