I only have access to the first bit, but Ab. So. Lute. Ly. on the main point.
I've seen this for years in assessments of the science outreach that I love so much. As I retreated to the higher ed classroom, w/ a slightly different population (at least politically mixed) I've had to reckon with that.
This is scary AND ALSO every time I hear about peptides I think of this bizarre Star Trek episode...
props on the great article by @beebrookshire.bsky.social
Model collapse was mathematically inevitable but I didn't think it would happen so quickly.
It’s ok to hiss. That’s just how girls talk sometimes.

that's weirdly adorable!!
Always my "emergency" pair in my carry-on JUUUST in case...
Uh, why are people giving this shit? I have all kinds of quick dry clothes for traveling light and they are brilliant. Even the undies!
I didn't realize people used that term until I got into crossword puzzles.
It makes me think of the unfortunate "olestra" era
Wonderful primer on weird plots in astronomy papers.
Haha. I did have some wonderful teachers.
Yup! That's what I've been hearing from other folks that left academia as well. Gives me hope :-)
That's something I finally realized about myself. I'm not attached to my research at all, really. If I was implementing and assessing educational and outreach techniques without studying them in a research context, I'd be perfectly fine with that.
Haha awesome!
Yeah I KNOW my classroom management skills for little ones ain't ever going to be there.
But teaching teens used to seem scary (I hated HS when I was there) but something about being in my 40s I feel like I can handle it and cultivate THOSE classroom management skills.

original meme by Earl; promotional photo of Worf with the Security yellow sections of his Starfleet uniform edited into a bright cyan-green-yellow-orange-pink tie-dye pattern, still wearing his Klingon baldric and communicator badge; behind him is an out-of-focus starfield with the white stars shifted to the same color palette
"Today is a good day to tie-dye."

WHOA 🔭🧪
Holy moly
I used to think "no way, that age group scares me" but I think hitting my 40s makes me feel a bit bolder 😂
Extremely timely (good little nested thread there)
Sure I can pay my bills and I'm slowly chipping away at my debt and I have a tenured job but WHOOPS higher end is on fire and departments/colleges like mine are closing.
My alternates... science writing?Fed-funded scicomm? Oops.
As I'm wrapping up another semester teaching about the Solar System, I agree with his answer 😁
Nope. Same answer!
BUT FIRST... this pile of grading and other things... 4 weeks til this year's teaching contract ends...
How dare you not conform
Sorry :-(
We got ours in normal time frame via direct deposit. Spouse did them, not me, so I don't recall when.
Holy blipping transients, Batman! 🔭 🧪
