American politics makes a lot more sense when you realize that the GOP is afraid of pissing off the GOP base, and the Dems are afraid of pissing off the GOP base, but neither party is afraid of pissing off the Dem base.

Lady Gaga looks like she's about to tell her men to decloak and fire on the USS Enterprise

My husband just helped me understand how awful people who create good art:

"Neil Gaiman is a character created by Neil Gaiman."

His public personna was convincing. He might have thought it would be labeled non-fiction forever. His art and his facade contain good characters. But he isn't one.

I'm pretty sure I've driven behind that black pickup on 76. Some bumper stickers you don't forget.

I'm very happy to be corrected on that. Always beware "citation needed" on Wikipedia!

What a shame they're gone. It looks like ICON came out of a similar project to the UK one that created the BBC Micro. The tragedy is that, if the Wikipedia article is accurate, ICON became such a political football that the government archives *declined* to save anything. Intentional erasure.

I have a vague memory of BLISS being an available language option on our VAX at John Carroll University in the early to mid 1990s but nobody knew how to use it... Although the old DEC help menus were thorough enough you could usually figure anything out if you had enough time.

Found out today that Hiter had a sort of Irish half nephew called - I shit you not - Paddy Hitler.

Saw someone upbraiding someone else for having a hobby while the world is on fire, and, my friends:

1. The world is ever on fire, this is today's conflagration;

2. If you don't find time for rest and joy the fire will consume you;

3. Don't let people shame you for being an entire human.

Comic by War and Peas. Panel 1: Two green aliens are at a press conference, sitting behind microphones. One alien happily says, "Jesus? We love that guy!" Panel 2: A human reporter with a microphone looks surprised and says, "We’ve been waiting centuries for his second coming." Panel 3: The first alien casually responds, "Really? He comes to us every year." The second alien adds, "We invited him for cookies. What did you do?" The reporter starts to sweat. Panel 4: Both aliens pause, looking inquisitive. One alien asks, "Wait. What did you do?" All reporters sweat.

Call me old fashioned but I still believe that a traditional marriage should be between one person who wraps presents with the the precision of a Vulcan samurai eye surgeon, and another hopeless goblin person who doesn’t even know how scissors work

Thinking about this chicken wing joint where I used to live called “Lord of the Wings." They had a sign in the window that said "Fry, you fools!" and they closed years ago but their top notch food punnery lives forever through me.

Adult films give young people a really unhealthy and unrealistic idea of how quickly a plumber will come to your house.

After mine, I ordered the biggest, sloppiest, greasiest mushroom Swiss cheeseburger I could find. The next week I took my mom to hers, and after her procedure, completely unprompted and with no knowledge of my "recovery meal," she ordered the exact same thing.
