— In came running Axl, all dressed up like Zero. His little treat bag was all full of candy, from performing little tricks to earn them to people liking his costume.

Once he spotted the Director, he ran up to them with the biggest grin on his face.

“Heeeey!! Miss Director!!”

“No uh- We can go back and I scan you there, okay? Would that work?”

— He may as well go dressed as X or Zero tonight.

And he’s secretly hoping to meet that director again.

— Damn, that’s really fucking embarrassing for him.

“I-I’m so sorry! I was just trying to rush out because they asked me to and-”

“Oh? Okay, see you too Miss Director!”

— He waved cheerfully, then sighed to himself. Maybe he did scare Lumine off, maybe he didn’t and she liked him…

Only time could tell.

— This bitch forgot a scanner. The most important thing.

Normal day on the city. On patrol, looking for Mavericks-

…This is so boring. Why did X and Zero assign him on patrol when he could be fighting and blowing off the heads of Mavericks? So boring…

— That definitely left him in a conflict. What would X and Zero say if they saw him slacking off?

“Ohhh…You’re right…Maybe I should get back to work…”

“Get a scan.”

— That was very candid. Very, very candid.

“Or worse!”

— Then again, he’s so used to every Maverick saying the same before going Maverick.

“Ah- no….It’s not that I wanna stay away it’s just a lot of work…”

— That is definitely a sad look on him.

“…Yeah, my question still stands. You need to get to medbay asap or a scan! We can’t have another outbreak!”

“Oh that’s g- SIGMA??? WHAT DO YOU MEAN SIGM WAS IN YOUR SYSTEMS AND WHY ARE YOU NOT IN THE MEDBAY???”

“Eh?! No no, like you were gonna cause trouble for a minute…We’re just really on guard!”

— His face shifted to worry, thinking he JUST fucked up.

— Oh that definitely got to him, breaking his confidence into a now flustered look.

“I-I am not visiting! I was just- trying to verify you weren’t a Maverick!”

— He let out a small huff, folding his arms.

— Blink. When did he remember this guy- Perhaps from somewhere?

Well yeah. It’s Sniper Joe.

“I’m doing alright, you?”

“Heh…Yeah, or the peace of the city! Man, I wish we got some off days, you know?”

“Nah, everyone’s just on edge I think. You never know when Sigma or some Maverick comes out of the blue, am I right? I’d just assume it’s the usual.”

— He’s a little too casual about it, probably because of a constant exposure to such protocols.

— The curious Hunter decided to follow him, maybe even catch his attention (since he knew that sneaking up could cause an issue…)

“Hey, green guy!”

“…Huh. You? The director of the Jakob Elevator Project, right?”

— Well, at least that set his guard down…

“Sorry then! Guess I’ve mistaken you for a Maverick…”

— Huh?

A particular figure caught his eye at that moment, deciding to follow them into their hiding spot. Was that another Maverick?

The young Hunter pulled out his gun, remaining on guard should the other attack.

Axl was JUST on his way back to base, stopping mid way when he saw a Sniper Joe just…walking? Weren’t they a lot more different and modern now?

The Maverick Hunter was just roaming the city, twirling that gun around with his head up high as people recognized him. After all, a few compliments from fans here and there wouldn’t hurt…
