Possibly Into The Wild by Jon Krakauer? Since the end is known, it jumps around, piecing together the life of Chris McCandless from photos, letters, talking to friends and family, but also telling Jon’s own story retracing his steps. Suppose that’s just investigative journalism, not a narrative
