It's just such a trope that once you mention you're an artist, people will talk about their projects and stuff to try and get you involved. Everyone has dreams, but it's rare people will seriously follow through (and with the $$$ to back it up). And children's books are just infamously slave wages.

Everyone wants to publish a children's book. Everyone thinks they have a great idea that will make a bunch of money. Reality is that children's books almost never make any money, artists almost never get any royalties after payment, and payment is almost always way way below min wage.

Them: So what do you do?

Me: I'm an artist.

Them: Oh, do you do children's books? I'm a part of a writer's group and a lot of them are writing children's books--

Me: I take it back, I'm not an artist, I've never been an artist, I've never seen a pencil before in my life.

A picture of an embroidered pterosaur, it's not of a specific species.
I made this little guy when I was learning more modern dino anatomy, the front legs off (the joints are supposed to be backwards), making the little guy standing more like a dog than a real ptero whoops

I retook a picture of one of my old works.
Here's a pterosaur, it has some anatomical mistakes, but I still like it

For the average person, we're not gonna notice the mistake. So I wouldn't worry about it. 😊 It's insanely cute and looks incredibly well done! :D πŸ₯°

A photo of a Crayola marker drawing of a chicken portrait in a realistic style, facing to the left, with bold vibrant blues for the body feathers, and firey oranges and purples for the face details. The background is a pale pink, orange, and yellow marble fade. Some of the markers used lay on the sketchbook paper for the social media photo op.

This wasn't my most popular piece, but it's still one of my fav Crayola ones I've done. I used the Bold set of markers, and the colors are just WILD. My precious, no fucks given, chicken boy! πŸ”

A reddish and neutral illustration, a girl in a red hoodie with blonde hair stands at the top of a shattered glass building, reflection of other skyscrapers in its sides. A man folding his arms stands behind her. Crows fly around them and up above in the sky, clouds swirl in a circular pattern around them.

Over the weekend @veronicarothbooks.com announced her new book, THE SIXTH FACTION, which I had the supreme pleasure of drawing the cover for. Thank you so much to the team at HarperCollins, Amy and Joel, who were an absolute delight in every way, for asking me to work on this.

OH yeah, I can be the same lmao. I always "Mark as Unread" even if I've read the message to remind myself to reply later. That might help?

Good luck though! And don't be afraid to adjust things as you go. You can try something for like two weeks, see what's working/not, change, etc. <3

A lot of people work 9-5 jobs and often expect those times to be slow/belated replies anyway. If someone has an issue with you not replying instantly regardless, like...???

But testing out different schedule ideas might help. Or using the pomodoro method (I do 15/5, personally).

Oh jeez ;o; Can you work in like 3-5 minute bursts? It might be annoying, but the more frequent breaks might help prevent further pain/damage D: Can the husband give a massage? x'D

Illustration of a sunbathing couple. He's a skeleton in a pink hawaiian shirt and orange swimtrunks, and she may not have the top on with her blue bottoms. They sit side by side, his hand on her considerable behind, and the other hand reaching for a bottle of hopefully sunscreen given how freckled and peachy-pink her skin is.

Having more fun with my extremely secure simp skeleton Skully. Today, risking bone-bleach for the company, tomorrow...who knows? But eventually, some kinda freaky sex because he deserves it πŸ’– #ocsky #illustration #summervibes #lichoc

A three strand cluster keychain with primarily amazonite and glass beads, with one agate, wood, green angelite bead, and plastic iridescent teardrop, with the middle strand's charm being a enamel potted plant. The colors are a mix of blue greens, browns, and white. Next to the keychain is a pair of matching earrings with a clear glass seed bead, green polished tumbled angelite, gold spacer, and the enamel potted plant charm.

Keychain and matching earrings. 🌿 Oh no, I love them xD Only one potted plant charm left, I wonder if I should make a matching bracelet? πŸ€”
