And this will happen again, and keep happening to live service games, with an ever increasing rate, because the more people hear about these types of games failcascading, the less likely they are willing to invest their time (or more important, money) into a new one.

I've seen dozens of different takes as to why this game failed. some blaming the MeAn InTeRnEt, some blaming Geoff Keighly, but the simple truth is that this game was designed to chase the live service trend, but offered nothing good for people who play these games to stick around.

The devs had to immediately correct course, implementing a 5v5 game mode, because 3v3 simply was not engaging in any form, but by the time that happened already half of the players had checked out.

Then the gameplay when it did release was a confusing amalgam of different genres but, at the core, being a fps hero shooter.

Other than being confusing, its initial impression was also just terrible, with the initial 3v3 game mode being far too small for the relatively big maps this game had.

This game did everything wrong, marketing a game as being "from the developers of Titanfall" while being nothing like a Titanfall game. (not even a SP Campaign!!!) immediately set this game up for disaster.

yea, it was a hero shooter, using the marvel IP, you know, actual super heroes everyone and their grandmother have heard of by now, you know, the type of IP that is perfect for such a game.

Literally the second this game was revealed to be another fucking live service hero shooter you could predict this was going to fail within less than a year into its life.
