The only reason Fidesz didn’t win yesterday was because millions of voters faced up to the reality that they would never defeat them under the rigged electoral system unless they voted as one, even if that maybe meant voting for a party they didn’t agree with on everything. Take note, Democrats.

The ÖVP since it got rid of Kurz has mostly returned to its old self. It’s in a grand coalition right now with the SPÖ and the Neos weirdos. :)
But now, well, it's like new neighbours have moved in next door and I feel like I finally should get to know them properly. Will try to pay a visit soon...
I'm finding this all weirdly personal because we'll have been living in W for 10 years this autumn and all the time we've been there Hungary has felt like this oddly forbidding place over the border full of racists who are too stupid not to keep voting for the autocratic bigot and his cronies.

I don't see him refusing to honour it. He has everything to gain by going quietly now and retiring to his mansion and his zebras and his ill gotten gains. Some other Fidesz figures might see it otherwise but without Orbán they're decapitated.
A lot of people are posting their confident hot takes about Hungary here and specifically about whether Fidesz will accept the results. I think it will. Orbán will be happy to retire to his mansion and his zebras. His style of maintaining power has always been about media control and gerrymandering.

It's a general rule in elections that smaller rural constituencies and polling stations have their votes counted first and then the big lumps of votes from the cities come later as they take longer to count. So in general early results favour rural and small town areas, which in Hungary means Fidesz
