West Australian favourites Rocky Ridge with a new look for their classic Pilsner.

Very traditional, big bread character.

For Esme - with Love ans Squalor, by JD Salinger

For Esme - with Love ans Squalor, by JD Salinger

First time reading Salinger, and I loved these stories!

Sometimes funny, sometimes thoughtful, sometimes sad, sometimes shockingly racist to a modern reader!

But I look forward to reading more.

A magnificent red ale from my local, Seasonal Brewing.

The logo for this beer was conceived by the owner's son, I'm told. Because who doesn’t love dinosaurs?!

Watershed, by Jane Abbott.

Watershed, by Jane Abbott.

Australian dystopian science fiction from a first time author. I enjoyed it, though due to a couple too many surprise plot twists I was losing interest by the end.

Crossing the Line, by Nick McKenzie

Crossing the Line, by Nick McKenzie

An absolutely ripping yarn about Australia's biggest ever defamation trial, and the events that led up to it.

Ben Roberts-Smith is now facing war crimes charges. That wouldn't have come about without this journalism, and probably even without this trial.

A very good dark lager from the Mornington Peninsula in Victoria. Plenty of coffee and smoke early, but more like a malty lager at the end. And gluten free, for those that need it.

Down and Delirious in Mexico City, by Daniel Hernandez.

Down and Delirious in Mexico City, by Daniel Hernandez.

A slightly aimless travel memoir where the author documents his time living in Mexico, with a focus on the modern subcultures he immersed himself in.

Fascinating part of the world, I'd love to visit.

A great local hoppy lager from East Perth. Crisp and bready, with just enough hop bitterness at the back of the palate to make it interesting.

A pineapple gose, a new take on the style for me, that I loved. A great fruit taste without being overly sweet, so I still caught the characteristic saltiness.

Great drop to unwind with after a busy morning.

Interpersonal drama in a rural town, set against the backdrop of a rapidly approaching bushfire.

This is a uniquely Australian story, that I really enjoyed.

The Dark Forest, by Cixin Liu

The Dark Forest, by Cixin Liu

The sequel to The Three Body Problem.

Far bigger and more ambitious than the first book, I'll be curious to see how they adapt it to TV.

This was great... A dry hopped, 10% IIIPA, which for some reason I'm drinking on Tuesday night!

Nicely hazy, soft and citrusy on the palate, with a massive hop kick that I love.

Mark Ella was arguably the greatest rugby player of all time, and retired in his prime at 25. I'm not quite old enough to have watched him play.

Fascinating to read about such a different era of sport, it reminds you how much the game has changed.

Ripple Brewing, a new brewery I've just discovered in Beaconsfield, with a great hazy IIPA debut effort.

A little more acidity than is usual for the style, but I'm enjoying it.

Can't wait to try more.

I enjoyed the TV series a few years ago, and I've enjoyed the first book of The Expanse even more. A really fun read.

And while delicious, this one is most notable because it's my last. I'm out of beer!

In a Commom Hour, by Sita Walker

In a Commom Hour, by Sita Walker

Set in an Australian high school, some moments were funny, familiar, and touching.

But it was very busy and frantic in other parts, with disturbing child abuse and mental health issues.

Moved at a frantic pace, but it needed to slow down and let the reader breathe.
