As long as they were the commissioner and paid for the work, they're entirely within their own right to remake or otherwise rework art they've gotten. Hopping mediums just makes it even less likely to be a problem because you can't really trace art when you're making it into stained glass.
Yeah, nah. It's a kind gesture for someone who likely doesn't deserve it. But the moment you frame it as a painful obligation is the moment you need to free yourself from it, imo.
Perhaps a card is better if you still want to expend the energy.
