Listen to translator Daniel Hahn discussing the project of bringing THE INVISIBLE STORY to English language readers for @lantanapub.bsky.social youtu.be/H1-In-IKdvQ?...
Businesses have been paying for quick, bad translations for a few years now. The price /word has been driven so low.
As a result, the bar in terms of acceptable quality is low too. Who cares if it makes sense?
And AI exacerbates it.
Quality and accuracy are no longer aims.
It’s speed and money.
Thank you @catherinebruton.bsky.social - so lovely to hear you enjoyed it ❤️🍩
Writing is like gardening. Both require patience, care, and faith that growth takes time. Lovely insights from The Novelry

I’m so pleased with my ‘new’ old car that has a CD player! Wonderful to drive and singalong to all my faves!! So glad I kept them.
I remember hearing the authors talk about this at a SCBWI conference a few years ago, absolutely vital discussion. Thanks for sharing.
Honoured to have had an early read of this incredibly important book and be quoted on the cover.
It’s a comprehensive exploration of representation in British children’s literature and the industry around it. It’s important and vital for anyone working in or with children’s books. /1
just stumbled on a real jaw-dropper of a line in an essay -- “The corollary of being interested in a great range of things is to have sympathy with a great range of outlooks” -- and that, my friends, is why reading is so important.
READING ALOUD CHANGES CHILDREN'S LIVES FOREVER! Just 10 minutes a day can be enough to help them find the love of books, and become lifelong readers. So whatever else you do, always find the time to read aloud – and the more you do, the better! #literacy #reading #books
