(3/3) EIB loans to arms companies have to be repaid with interest. ๐ธ
That only works if the investment is profitable. Arms investments are only profitable if weapons get sold, used, and renewed. ๐ฅ๐งจโผ๏ธ
Public climate finance now has a financial stake in the arms trade continuing.

(2/3) ๐ช๐บ๐ฆ The EU's "climate bank" gave โฌ500M to Safran, one of the world's top arms manufacturers, and counted it as climate action.
The logic: if a weapons system runs on cleaner fuel, it's a green investment, even though the military is among the world's largest polluters. ๐ช๐ฃ
(1/3) ๐ธ๐ฃ Defence spending is having its moment. In the EU, military budgets are growing fast and with little public debate about where the money comes from or what it funds.
The @eib.org is playing its part. ๐งต๐

Billions are being shifted away from fossil fuels, and thatโs worth celebrating ๐

70 organisations have written to MEPs asking them to vote against the #PCIlist proposal for a new generation of hydrogen and fossil fuel pipelines.
We call on the Commission to draw up an electricity-only list of projects to avoid fossil fuel lock-in.

Scandal alert!
๐๏ธ VDL has officially declined to meet the people.
While sheโs busy with the industry, she has declined the 270+ groups waiting for her. Weโre withholding our ball because we don't talk to empty chairs.
Stay tuned: the ton isn't going anywhere, and we have a lot to say about this snub.
๐ฃ 270+ organisations gathered. A ballroom prepared. And the Guest of Honour? She has declined the dance.
๐ It seems @vonderleyen only has eyes for her industrial suitors.
๐ฑ The @EU_Commission has officially refused to meet the people. #AntwerpCounterSummit
A scandal, truly.
โก๐ก๏ธโ๏ธ In the EIB Forum, discussions were not centered around housing, energy bills, unemployment, or low wages. Guess what they talked about? Did they just talk?

๐ช๐บ๐ฆ A new blog on the @eib.org Forum 2026 is out!
For three days, bankers, ministers and CEOs from big companies discussed Europeโs investment future. But behind the panels, speeches and networking, something else was happening: contracts were being signed.
๐โ๏ธ The @eib.org claims to be the Climate Bank. But financing fossil-linked infrastructure and companies while ignoring international legal obligations tells a different story.
We joined 14 CSOs in demanding the EIB act NOW.

๐๐ค At the recent EIBF Forum, โwin-win partnershipsโ dominated discussions around EIB Global.
Yet the focus remained largely on advancing EU commercial interests, supply chains and strategic priorities, raising questions about whose interests are shaping development finance. ๐ช๐บ๐ฐ

In #EIBForum, happy as the EIB says we can not go back to #fossilfuels in front of Eni lobbyist but so sad not to hear any voices against #nuclear, #CCS (Eni's favourite)
In this episode, we unpack the power relations and governance flaws in the current European industrial agenda.
We also explore alternatives to the current industrial policy. What would a genuinely sustainable transformation of the European industry look like?

Today marks the one-year anniversary of the EUโs flagship Clean Industrial Deal. But so far who benefits, and who actually decides the direction of Europeโs green transition?

Today, 17 international CSOs sent a letter calling on the Swiss government to stop violating its commitment to end international public finance for fossil fuels.
We demand ๐จ๐ญ to honor its climate commitments and immediately cease issuing export credit insurance for gas-fired power plants.

At a moment when Europe urgently needs investment for decarbonisation and a just transition, InvestEU risks reinforcing an industrial policy that protects private profits rather than driving transformative change.

Who decides that a project 'needs' public support?
๐ The Investment Committee
It approves the use of the EU budgetary guarantee โ mainly assessing 'additionality' and whether the project can 'crowd in' private investors.
In theory, it safeguards public interest. But as Verkor shows, it does not ๐ค
Take Verkorโs Gigafactory in France ๐ซ๐ท
While a main shareholder Renault recorded record profits and increased dividends, InvestEU concluded the project required public support.
No binding conditions. No obligation to change business models. ๐๐จ
๐จ A vague definition of 'additionality' lets public guarantees back projects from companies that already have plenty of resources.
And fails to attach conditionalities that would ensure companies invest their own resources and profits in productive, environmentally sustainable activities. ๐ฑ
๐ธ InvestEU is set to become the cornerstone of the European Competitiveness Fund (ECF) in the next ๐ช๐บ budget.
Yet there is still no comprehensive assessment of its impact on the real economy.
Headline numbers โ real investments.
