Jason Reynolds on What Fires the Imagination of Young Readers The best-selling author on why "inappropriate" topics may be exactly what teen readers need, and the importance of raising the hair on the backs of readers' necks in the first 50 pages.

On a very hot day in June, I took a risk. I made a beeline to the front of the room at ISTE so I could shake hands w/ Jason Reynolds.

Nervously, I blurted out, "I know you have to leave, but my editor would never forgive me if I didn't ask to interview you."

Tonight I’m working on my presentation for #MiWLA25 on the topic of teaching culture in the language classroom. This session is based on the work of Cécile Lainé. She quoted Cathline Tanis and I’m delighted to rediscover she’s here on 🦋 @tanisleads.bsky.social

If you can't protest tomorrow, you can do other things:
- call your reps
- donate to orgs like the ACLU, Indivisible, etc
- be protest support (be the one people call if they're arrested, offer water/first aid, etc)
- write an op-ed for your local paper

...and so much more. We can all contribute!
