I was just thinking about this yesterday. The last several interesting tech things have been ruined by capital investment pushing them on people 1000 times more than was warranted. As long as tech companies keep wagering everything trying to get monopolies they’ll make every new thing miserable.

the tech companies are stuck between a rock and a hard place of "pissing off the investors if I say it won't replace jobs" and "pissing off the labor force if I say it will".

so I think they should just kill it and then IDK themselves maybe

ai has a “pr crisis” because we’re being told that it will replace everyones jobs and the plan from there appears to be to have to deal with not having a job or money. no one believes that the tech billionaires will bestow UBI or anything at all onto the “permanent underclass”

I think a big one was how smartphones gentrified the net. The death of user-facing tools and interesting web design, and the pushing of everyone onto easily censored sites that could conveniently turned into apps.

Like, think about how many technical changes were forced on us in the name of "progress" and we had to take it even though we liked things the old way.

Ppl think that those use cases make it harder to fight back, so they use denial as a bullwark.
