Ok sure, I will agree that it was incorrect to state zero presence. Fully willing to admit that was wrong of me to state. It was off the cuff and I should have rephrased the point I was trying to make better, which is that the con is using these things as deflection from the real reasons.

In general for Trotcon, international attendees make up less than 1% of the attendees. It is something that they are using as a deflection to the real issue which is that they could not acquire a venue this year at all.

This. There are still a lot of really great cons out there. Everfree Northwest is amazing, both Whinny and Ciderfest are great communities with great leadership who truly care for their attendees (Charlie and Michelle are GOATed). New cons like Sunshine are amazing.

Literally the worst venue I've ever been in for a con. It made the DCC look like the Ritz. At least the DCC's reasons were actually due to literal ongoing construction, the venue in Columbus did literally NOTHING to the place after taking over ownership. Literal tarp sign over the old one.

At the end of the day, Trotcon could have been something great, and I myself should have seen many of the early warning signs, and I got burned as a result of it. I don't want anyone else to fall into that trap. Blog post from last year below.

The heat barely worked in many of the areas of the venue, there were literal fleas in the vendor hall, they had a tarp sign covering the old sign out front, and they had done zero landscaping. It's quite possibly the worst hotel in all of Columbus. It makes the DCC look GOOD comparatively.

Also, I'm gonna be real. The venue for 2025 SUCKED. Anyone who said the bad reviews were from before the change in ownership... yeah y'all were wrong. Those bad reviews persisted through ALL of 2025. The franchise owners don't care about the property at all.

This is not a con that treats people well. They chew people up and they spit them back out, and for what? Why keep burning these bridges? Let's not even get started on how many folks never received sponsor rewards they were owed. That's a thing that has happened.
