When an insurance company is deciding whether to pay for your medical treatment, it generates a file, which should contain all records associated with your case, including documents explaining why the claim was denied.
You have a right to see this file.
We are heartened by this call to action in Nature, one of the most respected journals in science. It urges the global scientific community to speak out on behalf of those being censored and support research as the US government shifts away from its historic leadership

If you feel this way, you're not along. And together, we're going to keep the Republic. Pass it on.
Don't lose this in all the noise. Trump abandoned Americans in hostile areas for no other reason than doing their jobs. Now they have 30 days to move countries and find new homes, jobs, schools. Go to @altusaid.bsky.social and read the stories. Then call your reps. This betrayal cannot be tolerated
Works as advertised
If I had a band or a label, I would do a punk cover of "No More Kings" from Schoolhouse Rock. And then I would gather a bunch of people to write a whole album of next-generation Schoolhouse Rock songs, with songs about Social Security and Medicaid and NOAA. I am not kidding in the least.
PSA: Words matter
They aren’t “layoffs”
It’s not about “efficiency”
You might have missed it, but Amazon warehouse workers in Raleigh, NC are voting this week on whether to form a union.
If they win, they'll be the first unionized Amazon facility in the South.
Remember that we can always find hope in the labor movement.
A point to consider.
THE SUPER BOWL HALFTIME SHOW IS UNION MADE!
Shout out to Kendrick Lamar, and all the performers and behind the scenes workers that made this go off without a hitch!
A fluffy barred owl is perched on a maple branch and is peering at the photographer. It is summer, and he/she is framed by a background of bright green maple leaves. The trunk of the tree frames the right side of the photo. It's shady so the lighting is muted and even. If you look to the left edge of the photo, there's a hanging birdhouse barely visible behind some leaves. It's on the same branch as the owl and houses a pair of nesting chickadees, which I'm sure are the point of interest for this owl.

From my short list of owl photos in my archive, I bring you a barred owl.

This one needs to read the Constitution. Money doesn’t erase it.
Just to be CLEAR...
If I was a US government employee, I would not take the buyout offer and I would not sign an NDA under any circumstances. I doubt anything they are doing is legal in terms of firing and trying to get staff to leave, and I hope the unions are fighting hard.
#USA: "We urge the US government to immediately resume funding of critical humanitarian and health aid, either through rescinding relevant orders freezing funding or expanding the current narrow humanitarian waiver to cover all necessary health and humanitarian programs." - @avrilbenoit.bsky.social
We need to call out the blatant lie being pushed by the Trump administration—that Elon’s staffers have only “read-only” access. It has been confirmed across departments that they have “administrative” access to computer systems.
Here’s what we did today
Hell yeah. Hold the line. This is what we need people to do.
Slow things down, don’t comply in advance so the courts have time to stop them. It’s starting to work.
“He [Trump] believes that the National Archives snitched on him to the FBI.
And snitches get stitches.”
While Trump has been distracting America with everything else, Elon Musk’s staffers are quietly taking over NOAA and the Department of Labor. They are also using AI to help rewrite a significant portion of the federal government’s computer systems.
Jeff Stein & @JStein WaPo A federal worker sent me audio of a call that HR did today with staff about "deferred resignation" agreements offered by DOGE ... I think this is pretty well understood by now but helps confirm what many suspect The audio goes: Employee: Lets say I accept the agreement tomorrow - you were to rescind the agreement and they were to stop paying me on Friday ... we would have no recourse available? HR official: Yes... as the agreement is outlined that is absolutely correct 11:40 AM • 2/5/25 • 168K Views
If you work for the federal government and are tempted to take Musk’s “buyout” offer please know that you’re never going to see that money.
BREAKING: we just blocked Musk & Trump out of the Treasury systems!
Court order just secured — big win by us at @sddaction.bsky.social & our partners including @publiccitizen.bsky.social!
