It's obvious that everyone knew Mandleson was a shady bastard with lots of links to sex offenders and con men but decided it was exactly those qualities that made him a good choice to be ambassador to an administration filled with shady bastards linked to the same sex offenders and con men.

A friend's daughter has type 1 diabetes treated with an insulin pump and sensor.
The whole system, monitoring and control tonadd/subtract from the insulin delivery is via.... a smartphone.
She has already got in trouble when an unaware (now aware) teacher saw her "using her phone" in class.
"let he who hasn't set up multiple shell companies to avoid paying ยฃ100k in tax cast the first stone..."

The narcotics supply and distribution industry is worth billions a year and employs a large number of people....
Maybe if they had better PR and lobby firms they too could argue for more relaxed regulation.
GB News headline: GP who asked Muslim woman to remove her veil 'because he was struggling to understand her' is struck off.
Was this GP struck off just because he asked a Muslim woman to remove her veil?
How likely does that sound? ๐คทโโ๏ธ
Did he actually ask her to remove her veil 'because he was struggling to understand her?'
Let's take a look at what really happened based on the tribunal reports...

Love how bad some of his written English is when he is complaining about how bad his patient's English is....
I would think "there may be food shortages" should rank a bigger headline than "some migrants might be lying on their asylum application forms"
I do wonder if Starmer should just come out and say "yes, we knew he was a slimey bastard who rubbed shoulders with sex offenders and con-men, but that's why we thought he would make the perfect ambassador to the Trump administration"
Has Rebekah Vardy's agent released a statement about how fishy the phone situation is?
This one
To prevent this, countries who declare they will veto measures should be made to vote last.
This did surprise me.
Maybe it's a media focus on the horror stories of rents shooting up in a few locations.
Also, could there be a divergence between rent rises for existing tenants vs incoming tenants?
That might account for the perception as people experience rent shock when they move.
That would be funny, but I suspect the number of landlords as a % of the pool means that even if it did, it wouldn't affect the result to a noticeable degree.
How many stars are there on the flag?...
You joke but...
Just realised how much Orban looks like the former prince Andrew.
I guess this is the issue
A rich person having a "bad time" just means having to let one of the servants go or using the Jag instead of the Helicopter.
For someone at the other end the consequences can be much more impactful.

No, two negatives make a positive
-1 Strait x -1 Strait = +1 Strait
therefore the strait is now open.
So could the "vibe" be down to the fact we are (very lowest excepted) slightly better off than before but at a much slower rate than previously.
Sort of "keeping up with the joneses" except the joneses are our past selves?
Then the poorest actually being poorer becomes emblematic
I bet the Iranians never even said "thank you"
The interesting question is why there is such a divergence between the "vibe" and traditional measures.
Is it simply a matter of media coverage, bias or are the regular measures failing to capture something?
(this also counts for immigration, regulation and a host of other things)
Right now (14.45) the UK is producing 114% of demand.
2.2Gw (7. 6%) of that is gas, which implies we don't need the gas plants except for reserve/stability.
The former could ultimately be provided by batteries and the latter by methods other than burning gas (eg synchronous condenser)
Price seems not to be set by gas - at least for agile customers.
The UK is currently producing more than the demand. The excess is going into pumped storage and a bit of export.
I suspect we are often burning gas as a "spinning reserve" rather than because we need the power.
None of trumps associates want to stay in those cities.
As soon as a major donor gets a mistress in Oslo the position will be filled.
Is this a case for *secret* ballots in both senate and Congress rather than open votes - especially for impeachment etc.
If there is no way to verify which way a senator/congressman voted then it is much harder to pressure them to vote a certain way or punish them for not voting your way.
Local distributed battery storage could be a good model.
If every home had 24h of electricity storage it would go along way to carrying a country through any dips in generation.
It also reduces grid load.
... whilst nuclear is more suited to long steady loads. It can't absorb excess either.
Battery and pumped hydro (geography allowing) fits better. It can absorb excess, respond quickly and fill in dark/still periods.
Again, how much battery capacity can you buy for the price of a nuclear station?
I am by no means anti nuclear, but I think it should be the last resort when you have built out solar, wind and hydro and still need a significant extra capacity.
I don't see it as a particularly good match for ๐ ๐จ. They are intermittent and a little irregular so need a fast responding "backup"...
