A great reminder about why Michigan needs to elect Eli Savit as our next attorney general (he was endorsed by the Democratic Party last night at the convention) - we need the states legal officer to fight back when the federal government is coming for our rights (and votes)

More perfect union: BREAKING: The Senate just passed the legislation allowing the devastation of the Boundary Waters. The motion passed 50-49, and now goes to Donald Trump’s desk.
Republicans just handed the Boundary Waters to a foreign corporation.
For the GOP, it’s foreign billionaires first, America last.
Im perplexed as to what you believed you were adding to the conversation.
Somewhere, paid for with your tax dollars, are $12,540 worth of three-tiered fruit basket stands. It’s a symptom of a much larger problem.
Eat free pizza and meet city staff (5-7pm)
Slice of Somerville:

Ward 6 - 5/12 Powderhouse Park

Ward 3 - 6/3 Prospect Hill Park
I know there are a thousand other things to also worry about, but it’s really frustrating that our state legislature can’t even get its act together to get rid of anticoagulant rodenticides. All they had to do was vote yes on the well-thought-out bill.
This is a problem the state could solve if it wanted to. From the article:
“‘Every raptor I hear of in Somerville or around Somerville that meets an untimely death is exposed to these rodenticides,’ Mary Vriniotis, co-founder of Save Somerville Wildlife, said.”
Thank you leaders of Europe for not supporting “what we’re doing in Iran.” Please continue to tell Trump to take a walk.
✊Very pleased to introduce our legislation tonight to ensure that Somerville will not collaborate with Federal assaults on our constitutional rights. Co-sponsored with @jonlink.bsky.social & Councilor Emily Hardt, with the @aclum.bsky.social

The house passed this. Now it’s up to the senate to use common sense and toss it out.
Why?
This will require *all* social media users to provide ID. The last thing we need now is our authoritarian government to have easier access to who is speaking out against them. This regressive bill must fail
Somerville neighbors, there's a community design workshop for the new school at 115 Sycamore this Monday, April 13, 5:30 to 7:30pm at East Somerville Community School. Come share your ideas on making it healthy, low-carbon, and green. All welcome. somervillema.gov/newschool
Graphic text: Did you know? The Republican megabill enacted the deepest SNAP cuts in history in July 2025. By December, 2.5 million fewer people were receiving SNAP benefits.
By December, the number of people receiving SNAP had dropped in all 50 states while economic conditions largely remained unchanged – a troubling sign that people are being cut off SNAP by H.R. 1’s eligibility restrictions & red tape, not because they no longer need help.
Did we not kidnap a head of government? What are we doing in Cuba? JD Vance is a punk he needs to get off his soapbox.
This is why I ran for office. Somerville will not accept federal overreach, and we won’t stand by while our rights are suppressed. Protecting free speech and our community (no matter where they are from) is essential work.
Thanks @benforward3.bsky.social for your leadership!
They oversaw a very important social media influence operation for the Kremlin, got caught, fled. And now they're not just back, they're guests at Donald & Melania Trump's Easter Egg Roll at the White House.
For anyone who hasn't followed along, this is meant to replace the old shelter down the road, which is in bad shape and not ADA accessible. The new shelter add ten beds (26 total) and they are also accessible.

Massachusetts Land Court has affirmed at Somerville ISD permit is good to go. The case, Becker et al. v City of Somerville ZBA and Somerville Homeless Coalition, had blocked the shelter from opening.
First Congressional Church of Somerville will finally be able to open to people who have no housing
Without question. Trump should be removed from office. The 25th Amendment is there for a reason. I can’t guess at what caused his dementia, but he’s very clearly unwell and he is taking America down with him.
Please get that going then. Far too many bright red lines have been crossed. He now says he will eliminate an entire civilization. He is unwell, and we need to get him out of a position where he is hurting American interests. The damage he is doing will likely not be repaired in my lifetime.

I think we do a good job with community engagement—especially around mobility, so I’m not asking for more, I’m asking the city to ensure what we do continues to be accessible to everyone. Language support doesn’t come cheap, but in a city like ours it’s necessary, so I don’t want it cut.
They also make getting around the city less stressful. Those looking to drive through the city are forced to do so at a city pace, so maybe the same can’t be said for people looking to simply cut through, but that’s actually another good point in my book.
This is the most uniting part about traffic calming and bike lanes. Cities that add these see significant drops in crashes involving pedestrians, bikes, & cars.
And around here bike lanes are really micro-mobility lanes. I’m especially happy when I see seniors with mobility scooters using them.
I can’t say for sure if this due to @councilorclingan.bsky.social, but the first I heard about it was the day after our city council meeting. Maybe yes, maybe a happy coincidence? In any case, I’m sure it helped.
The city is going to provide gloves, trash bags, and grabbers.

They just killed off the forest service.

Ben is my ward councilor and an amazing colleague. I'll be out of town for his kickoff, so I need to recruit every person on Bluesky in my absence.
Help make Somerville beautiful at what would otherwise be an eyesore.
