Illustration of the Birmingham market hall. A Classical style building - a consistent run of high vaulted windows running along the front of the building. A series of doors below each window. The entrance to the building is on the far right of the illustration with pillars at the front and the statue of a female figure on the roof above the entrance. Pedestrians walk along in front of the building in the foreground of the illustration. Text beneath the illustration reads - Birmingham Market Hall now erecting from the Design of Mr. Charles Edge, architect. The exterior of this building is of beautiful Bath stone. Length 365 feet. Breadth 108 feet'. Printed and published by William Daniell at his Lithographic Establishment, 88, New Street, Birmingham.
#Birmingham Market Hall was a municipal hall based on the design of Charles Edge from 1835 until 1940 - the interior and roof were destroyed by bombing. The shell of the hall was occupied until demolition in the 1960s. Ref – WK/B11/3493 #LibraryofBham #bhamwsmkt
Francis thinks this sort of bold revamp sets the standard for Station Street, that they don't need to settle for faceless blocks of housing. We got experts to appraise the plans - they approved.
But to succeed, Francis needs momentum from the public, or Glenbrook to agree. Can he do it?
