Some brands are really leading the way in empathy, recognizing that certain holidays may be triggering/painful/sad/all of the above for individuals. So far, Kendra Scott is the first I've seen to send an email asking if you want to pause #MothersDay or #FathersDay ads. Feels over profits
Graphic saying "MMWR March Madness!!!". Two quarerfinal winners have been crowned: dehydrated placenta and bat salad. Our newest contenders are THC accident and cannibal sandwich.
Round 3 of #MMWRMarchMadness: Weird shit you can (but shouldn't) eat. FIGHT!
🅰️ Accidental THC from restaurant dough: www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes...
🅱️ E. coli from meat market "cannibal sandwiches": pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC...

Winner announced tomorrow!
Has to be cannibal sandwiches, can't make this stuff up!
Definitely bat in salad - it also sounds like an excuse from a person who refuses to eat leafy greens ("No salad for me, it's too risky after that bat...)
My kind of #marchmadness
B, especially in today's "wellness" culture
Q: What does an #epidemiologist do for fun?
A: ⬇️
Followed by lots of infectious fun and contagious laughter
TLDR: Research on aging, Alzheimer's disease, mental health research was nearly cut in half
and 2. "Flexibility is the superpower of philanthropy. Philanthropists can co-design new funding mechanisms with scientists and innovators so that we have the right mechanism for the right class of problems."
#publichealth could really benefit from thoughtfully-developed moonshots right now
Reading Tom Kalil's post for @renphil21.bsky.social & 2 ideas stick out: 1. "philanthropists can play a key role in increasing the ambition of scientists and innovators, who can in turn increase the ambition of philanthropists" (1/2)

Public health is a wild field to be in because when things go right, people assume we're not doing anything useful, and when things go wrong, people assume it's our fault.
This pattern dates back to the beginning of public health.
Unfortunately, the words #caregiver and #caregiving didn't make it into either #SOTU or the response....maybe next year
Helpful way to think about #measles from @ericchowmd.bsky.social's team at Seattle-King County: cdn.kingcounty.gov/-/media/king...

How many times during your #publichealth course work did you learn health impacts of #bereavement? For me, that number was 0. Working w #caregivers & formers, I missed understanding that went beyond #grief. Check out special topic of @frontiersmedia.bsky.social

Thoughtful and rare #olympic ice skating performance by Olga Mikutina of Austria that tells the story of growing old gracefully. Rare to see an athlete honor and embrace #aging.
Deadline for Health and Aging Policy Fellows Program is one month away 3/16. This fellowship can be transformative for anyone, esp those in #publichealth who want to understand & ultimately transform policies that will shape #aging #fellowship

Time to start looking at the odds for #SOTU. What are the chances that #caregiver or #caregiving get a mention?
Maybe tied to the new #AI challenge: acl.gov/caregiver-ai...
A dose of disenchantment from a scientist who forever changed our understanding of evolutionary biology:
The line after what's quoted below is "One lives only to make blunders."

Today marks 86,400,000 seconds - or 1,000 days - until the #2028election. As @petebuttigieg.bsky.social said "The future will belong to those who can think clearly about what happens next.”

This @statnews.com piece by @krutikakuppalli.bsky.social is a thoughtful, thorough assessment - I only take issue with the title. Author describes how this is not a failure of public health science, knowledge, or standard practice - it's a #policyfailure due to choices made by individuals anti-PH
Great quote from Dr. Moore: "Aging is a good thing.
Getting older makes you wiser, more resilient, more accepting and happier. There will be changes and challenges. Focus on what you can do — not what you can’t." #healthyaging
We’re heading back to 1990 levels (27,000 cases). If we keep it up we’ll get to pre-vaccination numbers (500,000 cases annually)
This is a self-made public health disaster 🤦🏻♂️
Stunning image, stunning reality
