Basically I think the Profressor Laytons and the Ace Attorneys and the Mystery Dungeons and Bravely Defaults and Etrian Odysseys and SMTs and Fire Emblems outweigh the stuff that was going on back on the base GB.

I guess my point is that on the base GB, like half of the library or more is "portable version of existing thing" while the 3DS is more like the GBA where it became a haven for smaller, lower budget titles that were nonetheless their own. It's just sad that so many of the big ticket ones were lame.

So much of what's on that first console is just a DEEPLY compromised version of a console game, and much of it is honestly Quite Bad. There are definitely great standouts, but the pool of non-color all-timer GameBoy games is really small and there's so much hidden third-party ambition on 3DS.

I'm actually going to counterpoint this! As somebody who has actually grown pretty fond of the exact "3DS game flavor" exhibited by for example, Dragon Quest Treasures, there's more stuff on there that interests me than on the original GameBoy!

These platforms are good for sharing things (music, art, memes, specific types of breaking news) but also turn you into an algo-zombie who has no hobbies because your brain has been chemically conditioned to pathologically fill every spare second with surface level gawking.
