Palantir's CEO published a manifesto arguing Western tech firms have a "moral debt" to US military dominance, that AI weapons are inevitable, and that "some cultures are dysfunctional." This isn't just a regularly evil tech or defence contractor, it’s a fascist political project.

Also! Older people have a diverse range of digital literacy so we need to avoid being ageist about our assumptions about who is adept at using these technologies and for what purposes. Properly regulated AI industry, products and services will benefit us all.
At the core of this paper is a call for greater meaningful integration of older adults into tech decision-making. AI-based harms are already happening in Australian aged care settings. Putting people's actual needs, concerns and ideas at the centre of technology would go some way to addressing them.
New open access paper! In this commentary piece, @micronarrative.bsky.social and I argue that older adult perspectives on mobile AI must be included in their design, implementation and regulation. journals.sagepub.com/doi/10.1177/....
Nothing like a night with a wakeful, teething toddler to completely destroy my sense of wellbeing/self
Yeah exactly. It's great to see a cultural institution in this country make some money while also being a reminder of how systemically messed up the funding systems are for arts and culture.

Delightful news from ACMI. Thank god this is happening next year when my son will be old enough to show the appropriate level of excitement (off the charts).
I will bet it never crossed any of these people's minds that this indicates a perception of bias *away* from dignity and respect for trans and disabled people. It only goes one way.
Conservatives are once again granted the position of "neutrality" and "reason" that is always denied to progressives.
"If policymakers wish to genuinely reduce harm to young people online, they must take seriously the task of challenging models based on behavioural advertising, profiling and problematic algorithm-driven feeds."
My latest for The Guardian on the news that the ban, unsurprisingly, isn't working
“one bloke and his fragile ego” 💯
We don't have "car culture" by accident.
We have it because Labor, and the Libs and Nats spent decades building cities where the car is the encouraged option.
Telling people to drive less while funding suburban sprawl and multilane roads is like telling people to eat less while subsidising KFC.
I don’t necessarily need my fears reflected in research but does make me feel less like I’m imagining things.
🙃 Am i wrong or is this a proposal for individualised AI-generated content that reflects your worldview?

I found it, the most deranged way a grocery store has ever displayed pasta sauce
It is fucking insane to me that the government refuses to learn any lessons from Robodebt and instead seems to want to roll out more opaque data-driven systems totally divorced from lived experience and actual need. Shameful and embarrassing for Labor.

all power to Huerta. we need an open reckoning with the sexual (not to mention economic) exploitation of women as workers in the labour movement
People want more content than humans can supply. This does not mean that, taken as a collective whole, there is not enough content in the universe of extant media. Rather, for any given person, there is content they would be willing—even eager—to consume that is not yet being provided. However, making this content comes at a cost. The space of hyper-specialized content people would consume is vast. But for most of this niche content the audience is too small to justify its production. In economics, the balance between the benefit to potential consumers and the cost of production is called optimum product diversity
this claims that there is no theoretical limit to the demand for hyper-personalized content; but the actual demand for actual content is dictated by social relations (desiring the desire of the other, etc.) arxiv.org/pdf/2601.06060
