yeah, DoS just generally means anything that causes the server to be overloaded with traffic and stop responding. usually this specifically happens cause a service is coded so poorly u can just exploit the way the API is written to let it happen from inside.

A DDoS is a distributed denial of service. this is not distributed, it comes from inside, not a variety of sources from outside.

They were calling the situation a DDoS. they didn't even know what the problem was. lol

It is not uncommon for DoS attacks to occur due to flaws in coding, You can make an API call that triggers several other API calls and effectively ends up DoSing itself from how poorly made it is.
