I'm raising just one beer right now in honor of his loss. May he have 9,999 more to celebrate a life well lived.

Solidarity.

My dad bought a beer fridge used in college.

About 35 years later, I moved the same fridge into the garage of my first house. Then my second.

Ten years after that, we gave it to my wife's sisters when they moved into their first place.

I have nothing but respect for immortal 1970s fridges.

Now I really regret that I couldn't get a photo of the truck I saw today with a full "Nightmare Before Christmas" wrap.

That's amazing. I loved reading the Register most days when I worked in Iowa, after which I became the opinion page editor for the Lincoln Journal Star for a couple years.

Hope all the medical care turned out well for your family. I'm glad you enjoyed it here so much. Omaha is such an interesting, diverse city in so many ways that people don't realize, both visitors and lifelong residents.

Winter in Nebraska is probably the biggest strike against Nebraska. But this winter was so warm we couldn't even go ice fishing. You really never know what you're going to get here in any season. Lincoln is a great city all around, though.

I love Des Moines. When I stopped working in Council Bluffs, though, I don't get out there nearly as much. Very underrated city with plenty of cool attractions and places to eat.

Yeah, I don't travel through Iowa for work anymore, but I really enjoyed all the cool attractions, restaurants, etc., I got to experience during my five years working in the western part of the state. Next time you're passing through Omaha, I've got recommendations galore for you.

I'm from Omaha, so I'm biased. But I'm convinced it's a hidden gem. I love Lincoln, Sioux Falls, Des Moines, and Kansas City all for different reasons. If you can get past the lack of mountains or oceans here, the Midwest is full of colorful cities with tons of unique culture.

Would a win-probability chart make you feel better right now?

I was one of five college guys packed into a minivan between Grand Island, NE, and Costa Mesa, CA, for 26 hours to watch Nebraska play in the Holiday Bowl.

(I also had to drive two-plus hours from Omaha to Grand Island to meet everyone in the middle -- haha.)

Those were the days. An ESPN producer had to physically remove me from the background of the interview they did with Ade Dagunduro after that game. I had drawn Horns down on a whiteboard and kept trying to get it into the shot.

You realize someone pulls a gator out of Carter Lake every few years or so, right?

This was me from when Terrell Taylor hit the buzzer beater to beat Florida in 2002 to when I realized how much Creighton was going to cost, even with a few scholarships.

Louise Pound - Wikipedia

She doesn't seem very well known outside Nebraska, but Louise Pound was an incredible scholar and athlete. She also taught my grandmother in college.

The Olympics have spoiled me. I need curling on at least a quad box.

There are several RPA applications out there -- Blue Prism is what I use for work, but UI Path and Automation Anywhere are big in this space, too -- where you can create and automate a workflow to navigate a website, download data, format files, etc., if it's consistent enough.

Matt, are you familiar with robotic process automation? This seems like a great use case for it.

Wouldn't doubt it. This friend showed up just in time to watch what should have been his Heisman Trophy and the glory days of Nebraska's Big Ten era.

One of my friends at Nebraska was from Arizona. He told me he applied and came to Lincoln because of the 2009 Gator Bowl win over Clemson.

The vibes in letters to the editor about Nebrasketball during my tenure were, shall we say, much different.

I interned at the Denver Post in 2010 and caught a Prater field goal at training camp. I'm out of journalism, but he's still kicking.

Seeing him still in the NFL is one of those things that makes this millennial not feel quite as old -- haha.

Makes sense. I watched that game until the end, so I'm racking my brain to remember what happened beyond Houston Christian covering some line by 0.5 points that my friend had bet against -- haha.

I don't think they shortened quarters in that game, if I recall. I can't remember Nebraska ever doing that.

Can't roller blade or skate. But I have a nice scar on my chin from when I tried learning to ice skate as a teenager.

Hey, sounds sort of familiar: attempted to backflip while jumping on my brother's bed. Except I missed the bed, and my elbow broke my fall. And itself.
