My 9yo is…something
His dad called to him “come here and help me, these bowls are stuck together”
9yo: “that sounds like a you problem…”

I was saying they (my kids) loved me because I’m perfect
9yo said
“I don’t know about love, but I tolerate you”

The sass started early with this one 🤦‍♀️

Nova Scotia looking at public bus system to and from Halifax The government is looking into options that would boost transportation between rural communities and Halifax Regional Municipality, helping lower congestion through the peninsula. According to a memo ...

Its funny, it's almost like there have been dozens of studies on this and the city was actively working on a rapid transit system...
They also used to have a park and ride option that they disbanded
People also don't ride transit because it's slow and unreliable leading to lower ridership....

This would include way more family doctors (esp in rural communities) and way more support staff (nurses, techs, etc).
This will cost billions
But will save trillions over a generation

Doctor calls for more resources for women and gender-diverse patient care | CBC News Even as he and his colleagues work “at full speed,” the head of obstetrics and gynaecology for the province’s central zone and IWK Health Centre says there are not enough resources to meet demand.

The problem with this (and all) strategies that target specific needs - it's putting a patch over a bucket riddled with holes. Stop one, there's still a hundred more
The entire health system needs an overhaul to focus on preventative medicine (including luxury bones-teeth- and eyes)

The city (&province) have a responsibility to ensure EVERYONE has access to a permanent roof over their head. Key word: PERMANENT
not shelters, not couch surfing, not temporary tiny homes until people 'get their feet under them'
It is cheaper to house everyone than what we're currently doing 2/2

Halifax drops plan to require affordable housing units in new buildings | CBC News City staff say a recent study showed that the model would have a major impact on highrise projects, which currently face the highest costs and slimmest profit margins.

"...it would not currently work for highrise rental buildings, which have the slimmest profit margins."
So because it's not profitable, they're throwing it out
HOUSING IS A HUMAN RIGHT

For the first time in 3 days, I’m hungry! Been sick with a cold :(
Problem is, now I have to actually make something to eat and the cold has tripped my vertigo
How to cook when you feel like you’re in a ship in rough seas…

Spent Easter weekend with my parents and brother…unfortunately we are all sick now and carried a cold down. But we left one kid behind for 2 weeks so..that balances right? Lol

My brother thinks he’s having an allergic reaction.
He’s driving past the hospital to go to my parents to help manage.

Because the hospital (ER) is closed for the holiday weekend

Canada is in dire need of election reform. Many don't vote because their vote doesn't matter - & if I can't vote for who I really want, they're not all wrong.
Trudeau.2 promised reform but didn't deliver and I'm willing to bet Carney won't either - which leaves young Canadians feeling the brunt 3/3

Because we're "first past the post" voting, many Canadians (me included) feel the need to vote strategically instead of by the heart. And this means the NDP often do poorly (the greens hardly at all, let alone any differing opinions) 2/3

Fewer than one-third of Canadians think Lewis's NDP is 'relevant,' poll finds Avi Lewis may be flush off a convincing victory within his party, but a new poll suggests the new NDP leader has a steep hill to climb.

42% said the party wasn't relevant. While this poll is a drop in the bucket of Canadian opinion, it touches on the problem without calling it out
I love the NDP (esp this new version brushing close to socialism) but I rarely vote that way - and it's because of our election system 1/3

Getting a better job isn't easy. They all require degrees. And many can't go back to school. Can't get loans due to a lot of issues.
Why shouldn't someone be able to survive (basics) on min wage?
It won't increase the price of everything (proven many times)
I'd still prefer UBI...

I hear the same argument - min wage isn't meant to survive on, it's meant for kids to get their 1st job.
My question is - if meant for kids, why are so many seniors working it?
If for kids - where's your coffee during school hours?
"just get a better job" until your latte isn't ready 2/3

Minimum Wage Rises to $16.75

With an increase in min wage you're going to get the complainers - whether they're moaning that it's ridiculous kids are earning so much, or it's (rightfully) that this is not nearly enough to live in NS. 1/3

This will mean more sick days for me
And the powers that be would rather I take a sick day than let me work from home one day a week
Riddle me that….

Today is my last work from home day 😭
The govt has decided people need to be in office
Thing is, I rely on this mid week wfh day because my body doesn’t do 5 days in a row well. Chronic issues get in the way
And I can do 80% of my job at home 1/2

Hey,

If you show up for kids every day — as a teacher, a parent, a camp counsellor, an after-school leader, a childcare provider, or just someone who gives a damn — this email is for you. You are doing some of the most important work in our communities right now. Even if the government doesn't seem to see it.

I see it. And I want to help.

It's called Light the Spark — and it's a free community for every Kid Hero like you. Here's what you get:

→ A growing library of free activities, experiments, crafts, and lesson plans — 45 resources already loaded and ready to use

→ A place to share your own ideas with the community

→ Chat channels to connect with other heroes

→ Free event listings so people know what's happening near them

→ Stories from educators on the front lines sharing what's working

No ads. No selling. No catch. Free forever.

You can browse everything without even creating an account. But if you want to share something, join a conversation, or connect with other heroes, signing up takes about 30 seconds.

LightTheSpark.ca

Why did I build it? I'm Devan — Dr. Rocket. I run Mad Science Maritimes. I'm a dad of three. My business gets paid from the same budgets being cut. I got angry watching what's happening to kids' programming across our region. And instead of just being angry, I did something about it.

Light the Spark is rooted in Atlantic Canada — but it's open to every Kid Hero who walks through the door, wherever they're from.

We've all been solving the same problems alone for too long. It's time to stop doing that.

They dimmed the lights. Now let's light the spark.

There's also the host and presenters. They're geared toward older millennials to boomers, which is who's watching. But if you want to bring in the younger crowd, you need to adjust how you're doing things and Conan isn't it

2) We just don't care. The world is going to hell in a handbasket and the idea that celebrities are spending $100k on their outfits (not personally, but still) and getting $50k gifts for attending is appalling.
With the gap between people and the 1%, we're over it

Oscars ratings down 9%, hitting lowest viewership since 2021 - National | Globalnews.ca The show also saw a more significant 14 per cent decline among adults aged 18-49 compared to last year.

The problem with the #Oscars is two-fold
1) People are overrun with celebrity things. It's not just passing a magazine rack now it's in our hands 24/7. We don't need to sit and watch, we can get bits on tiktok
