FYI for others dealing with scanning thousands of pictures, there are many online companies that do this for a very reasonable fee. Of course it's a little nerve-racking to send you precious pictures away to a stranger, but I've had it done several times and it's worked beautifully.

We CT scanned thousands of vertebrates from US natural history collections and made them freely available. Countless people have used the data for research (>200 pubs) and to learn anatomy/morphology.

The virus possesses a biological characteristic that is not found in nature.
2.

Data shows that all COVID-19 cases stem from a single introduction into humans. This runs contrary to previous pandemics where there were multiple spillover events.
3.

Wuhan is home to China’s foremost SARS research lab, which has a history of conducting gain-of-function research (gene altering and organism supercharging) at inadequate biosafety levels.
4.

Wuhan Institute of Virology (WIV) researchers were sick with COVID-like symptoms in the fall of 2019, months before COVID-19 was discovered at the wet market.

By nearly all measures of science, if there was evidence of a natural origin it would have already surfaced. But it hasn’t.

The White House has turned COVID.gov from a public health resource into a politically charged platform promoting the lab-leak theory and attacking specific scientists and the pandemic response in general. Let’s fact check its 5 headline claims… 🧵

I support the US garment industry. I don't believe in making life harder for immigrants or erecting blanket tariffs. So how can we reshore some of our US garment manufacturing without xenophobia or protectionism? Here's my view. 🧵

Volcanoes can be episodic on min. to yr. timescales. Since 23-Dec-24, we have seen 16 roughly day-long bursts w/ little action between.

Beautiful! But those may be cherries? 🇯🇵 plums and cherries are so similar that iOS Photos mislabels mine.

I have white and pink cherries next to each other. Unlike plums, cherries have notched petals and many flowers bunched together.🌸

A few more sea otter photos. I watched this mother and pup pair for about a half hour at Morro Bay last month. She was pretty busy grooming the pup, and he was busy just touching his face and being adorable. 🐬🦑

Coaxing USAMO Proofs From o3-mini-high Decent USAMO performance may be closer than headline results suggest

This is an interesting deep dive into the paper finding that LLMs wasn't able to solve any problems in the current Math Olympiad, suggesting that the o3-mini-high is closer to the answers than the headlines have suggested (though it still doesn't get them right). lemmata.substack.com/p/coaxing-us...
