And for some reason this really tickled my funny bone and I had to snort laugh into my hoodie for several minutes before I could sit still enough to actually get the damn shot.

Kiddo and I went to get our flu shots this morning and when we checked in at the counter, the lovely pharmacist said “I’ll just let the vaccinator know you’re here.” And then not 30 seconds later that same person stepped out from the counter and called us in because HE WAS THE VACCINATOR.

Last day of term tomorrow and my kid is very excited because he and his friendship group are heading into the city for lunch at Liverpool Kebabs, and he’s going to experience his first ever halal snack pack 😂❤️

An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

"Reconstruction plans imposed on Palestinians with the implicit aim of destroying Palestinian life in Gaza demonstrate the reason Lemkin reserved a place for architecture in his conception of the crime of genocide."

It really is - although someone turned the dial to chilly a little too abruptly this year. The light is perfect though ❤️

Photo shows a view of Hobart, including kunanyi Mount Wellington, taken from the waterfront. It is a sunny day with a big blue sky.

Had a coffee at the waterfront this morning. How lucky are we to live in this spectacular city? ❤️🙏🏻

If Orban is ousted, Hungary also becomes a test case for what policies work to undo authoritarian entrenchment in state institutions. Provides many lessons for us here if/when Trump's faction loses control.

Posted two letters to the UK at the PO today and I only realised afterwards she’d sold me cheapo card stamps instead of full letter ones ($3 each instead of $4.50) 😭 let’s hope they actually get there!

Seriously considering the first woodfire tonight, although it always feels like admitting defeat when it’s this early 😂

I think it’s tricky because even between teachers there’s a broad spectrum of what level of AI assistance is accepted in coursework - but this one at least has been agreed across the entire English department.

I think even when I was at high school people could request extra time or a scribe if they really struggled - but very few folk did. And we’d sometimes have 2 or 3 exams in a day that would each be an essay!

I’ve only kept it up by writing letters to friends, but they’re definitely not 1000+ words. I’d definitely struggle, especially with a time constraint.

I have wondered the same and hope so. I suspect this will be the most a lot of the kids have ever handwritten!

What a time to be alive.

My kiddo has to hand write a 1200 word college essay this weekend and then hand in written copies of first draft, revised draft and final draft. I don’t think they’ll have to do this every time but I guess if people hand in something significantly different to previous typed essays it’s an AI flag.

The important part of the automatic draft registration is that is shows we’ve always had capacity for automatic voter registration and benefits disbursement. We simply choose not to.

God I hate this genre. These kids who protested Gaza got arrested, expelled, beaten up, doxxed, lives ruined by outside agitators and were utterly betrayed by the administrations that should have protected them at any cost. Shut the fuck up.

Scientists invented a fake disease. AI told people it was real Bixonimania doesn’t exist except in a clutch of obviously bogus academic papers. So why did AI chatbots warn people about this fictional illness?

Bloody hell. Researchers invented a disease, published two fake papers to see if LLM’s would ingest them and kick them up as fact — and then it broke containment and all the major AI’s bought in. Information pollution.

Yeah so he is just going to keep doing the thing where we are in a constant state of uncertainty, confusion, stress, and tension because that is what abusive people do and the people who are in a position to address this are asleep at the switch.

The UK must immediately and unequivocally suspend support for the US military.

The Government have tried to appease him, then they tried to say they're standing up to him.

Words aren't enough - it's time for action.

A Conversation with Ta-Nehisi Coates On the Black and Palestinian experiences, the aftermath of the US election, the boycott movement and more.

Really good interview with Coates, where he does not at all bend or back down on his solidarity with Palestinians.

He also does a good job of cautioning against the Tucker Carlson phenomena while explaining how the circumstances have created a hole in left-of-center discourse on the issue of Gaza.

That these pictures intended to unite and humble us at the reminder of how small we all are were published at the same time as a president threatening “a whole civilisation will die tonight,” is particularly jarring somehow.

I am simultaneously struck by the political stakes of this moment and the limits of my own capacity to do anything but watch in horror.
