Be Wary of Bluesky Bluesky promises decentralization, but nearly every user's data sits on Bluesky's servers, and every new ATProto app reinforces that centralization. T

What do we do about this? Start hosting our own and migrate off? Or admit Mastodon was always better for real independence?

Thanks Yannick for a really nicely researched and written article around my PropelAuth package for API.

I've spent the last few days making some big modifications to it and completing the API, all of the core and common functionality is now included.

👏
Use unsplash.com & include attributions to use free, great images whilst giving the photographer some credit. Even better, since you're paying AI to make a bad image, pay unsplash to give you a great one!

No commission or referrals here, just sharing a website I love to solve a problem I loathe.

If your website has multi tenancy that segregates user pools, but shares a (sub)domain and determines tenancy by path/query parameter - know that we and all our password managers hate you.

A friend of mine has been put on an intolerance checking diet (elimination diet) this week. One of the starter foods (i.e. safe foods) is "potatoes peeled to at least 2mm" so perhaps you could try that?

The stupidest thing wealthy people do is spend all of their money making sure they only ever see other wealthy people. Fucking rots their brains.

🇪🇺 On 29 June 1985, European leaders chose a symbol that would stand the test of time.

Twelve golden stars in a circle.

A powerful symbol of who we are and what we stand for: unity and peace, democracy and solidarity.

Today, we celebrate 40 years of our common flag.

Wait, it was only just 10 years ago. You missed a bit.

I was flying once and drinking a cup of tea, I looked out the window and just thought “why am I calm, like why are we all calm? All sat here pretending this is perfectly normal sitting and having tea with nothing but air under us for 30,000ft” and then went back to staring at the clouds.

@fastmail.com there’s plenty of people looking for ethical alternatives to O365/Google Workspace. Any thoughts on rounding out your features towards that? Cloud storage with sync and oauth2/saml might be enough IMHO

a lil reminder to really really think about where your money goes and who makes profit off of what… who’s getting richer… who’s more distracted. keep fighting.

The minimalist, pretty, almost gorgeous, but nonetheless practical and distraction-free macOS era will be missed.

This is the first dev beta, I can see a bunch of refinements happening, like they have in previous years. Not to mention some positioning just doesn't work, so there's plenty to go yet.

Strong agree on all fronts.

Timeless things are generally dull. VW/Audi cars never go out of fashion because they're so straightforward, a few flourishes but generally unchallenging. Compare that to "cheeky" car brands after even a couple of years.

Anyone trying to improve public/active transport to reduce car dependency will be told they “don’t care about low income families who need cars.”

Low income families aren’t the ones driving, but they are the ones being killed by cars.

We need more safe and affordable car-free ways to get around.

Re: My AI Skeptic Friends Are All Nuts Re: My AI Skeptic Friends Are All Nuts There was a post recently that was dissing AI Skeptics. While the post is funny at times, I feel like it’s absolutely and completely missing the point of the skepticism. Or at least I feel that it is glossing over some massive pain points of said skepticism. Let’s go over some of the points and the things that stuck out to me as problematic.

Whilst the author is talking about LLMs and coding, I think this article hits the nail on the head, and it applies to pretty much all complex uses of LLMs.

A HISTORIC MILESTONE: For the first time, solar power generated more electricity globally than nuclear, making it the world’s 4th largest power source.

In just 5 years, solar output nearly tripled—from 79 TWh (Apr 2020) to 233 TWh (Apr 2025). The energy transition is speeding up.
