"The series still has a strong cult following in the United Kingdom today"

If ever a Wikipedia statement warranted a "citation needed" tag, it was this one.

I mean, roll this one and the one above it together and that's Stranger Things, basically.

Although I feel like Round The Twist deserves a mention here too

Oh also Alastair Reynolds - generally not a hard scifi author, but writes excellent short stories and some are hard scifi

Either "Cardiff Afterlife" or "Signal to Noise" particularly springs to mind (and ironically I think is a homage to Benford's Timescape?)

(I only read three of his though, so I don't know if it's a general thing)

Did you try any Gregory Benford? It's been quite a while since I read his stuff but I remember the "scientific realism" in Cosm extending pretty accurately (and sympathetically) to the shit a female black astrophysics professor would be experiencing in academia in the late 1990s, for example.

Seems odd to put the actual % using social media behind the link, given the take-home message

But also "83% of [MPs] cited social media as their primary source", combined with 77% for news media feels like some new definition of "primary source" that I wasn't expecting

A very good but perpetually anxious pomeranian-yorkie-chihuahua cross on a walk

We regularly dogsit a pom-yorkie-chihuahua cross who is adorable but _so_ anxious (we dogsit because he gets too anxious when left alone), but I think that's the other two breeds; the pomeranian just makes him very licky

A brown moth with darker gray wavy lines across the wings. The legs are very furry.

This year I’ve been photographing lots of moths. In Colombia, there are so many that my field guide has disclaimers about how incomplete it is. Anyway. I’m stating a thread to share moths for the rest of 2026. Here’s the first one. Enjoy! 🌱
