People keep comparing Manchin to Fetterman but there's a big difference. As soon as Fetterman stroked out and lurched right progressives stopped supporting him. Centrists, meanwhile, insisted that we needed to play ball with Manchin for like 15 years
My most liberal idpol radlib take is that I think it's pretty bad that
right wing forces are actively intervening on behalf of the Klan with the full weight of the state legal apparatus
Student learning will suffer because of these changes as colleges are further exposed to partisan and corporate influence. We must fight back to ensure college remains a place where students are taught HOW to think, not WHAT to think. 🧵end
If you attend the White House Correspondents Dinner this year, you should be legally barred from using the term "journalist" to describe yourself from that point on.
It would be nice if, at a moment when academia is under brutal assault from outside forces that are opposed to the very core of its mission, academics weren't so obsessed with self-flagellation.
Tucker Carlson: I'II be tormented for a long time by the fact that I played a role in getting Donald Trump elected. We're implicated in this. I misled people.
It'd sure be nice if Kamala Harris' campaign organization wouldn't constantly promote Tucker Carlson, Alex Jones, Megyn Kelly, and whatnot. But oh well.
Nothing has killed more soldiers in the history of humanity than disease. While worst is a more complicated question Hegseth is absolutely the dumbest secretary of defense the United States has ever had. bsky.app/profile/ones...
After building the best public education system in the world brought us the Counterculture and the Anti-War Movement, conservatives in the US began a 50+ year assault to destroy public education.

Can Stonewall Mark II put trans wars behind it? New chair talks of consensus but she’ll have a tough job unpicking charity’s bullying stance Kathleen Stock In the history of gay rights, there have always been fearless souls willing to face down mobs of pitchfork-wielding fanatics, but perhaps none so brave as Kezia Dugdale, incoming chair of trustees at Stonewall. In an interview with The Guardian this weekend, the former Scottish Labour leader did the unthinkable and praised JK Rowling.
If you had any doubts that Stonewall is a danger to trans people, here is Kathleen Stock praisng them in the Times.
"When the gay rights cause first got going, the ideal was toleration"
Like... no. Their job, if they win in November, is to spend the next two years making Donald Trump's life a living hell and prevent him from making things worse for the rest of the time he's in office. They are there to gum up the works.
I am so unbelievably sick of you centrists.
Laughing at the idea that the "first order of business if Dems win House/Senate" should be to re-introduce the right-wing immigration bill Biden/Harris tried to run on in 2024 to take the immigration issue off the table by making a ton of concessions to the anti-immigration right.
It amazes me how much centrist Dems are trying to pin the blame for Trump on eligible but disaffected voters and not the feckless politicians repsonsible for endless stream of reversals, policy failures, and disappointments—do nothings who desperately want your money "to save democracy" nonetheless.
1. This weekend, a federal judge permanently blocked funding threats to providers and hospitals that provide trans youth care.
The judge also blocked "any similar policy."
Hospitals have NO excuse and must return to providing care under many blue state laws.

When I was in college, a group of stoners tried the same thing, recording the deep & insightful conversation they had while stoned.
6 hours of people belching and masticating interspersed with saying the absolute dumbest shit imaginable was bad then.
It's worse now.
You want Palantir to listen?
As a former StoryCorps facilitator, this is fucking disgusting.
End the project already, Dave.
You created a good model: you encouraged people to sit and do oral history for 20 yrs.
Turning StoryCorps into a surveillance capitalism nightmare is not worth the money to keep the project going.
ZOHRAN MAMDANI: "It is sad that for too many Americans when they want to look for ambition in the Democratic Party, they have to turn to a history book."
Advice for @erc.europa.eu :
Prohibit the use of LLMs for grant writing. Let applicants sign a declaration that they have not used such systems and that the text is written by them and them alone.
Just a thought: How about we stop shaming the poor for buying things that may not be essential, and start shaming the rich for making a profit off things that are essential?
Like... I'm sorry, but to win future elections, you need a good chunk of the people who sat out in 2016 or 2024 to vote for you, and I just don't think that sneering at them and saying it's their fault that things are the way they are right now is going to win them over, even if you truly believe it
"You let someone get into office..."
That's a lot of responsibility to be dumping on people you acknowledge are already pretty close to you in beliefs. Instead of berating them, you might consider what you could do to appeal to them, since, like you said, they agree with you on 90% of things.
As so many of us have said so often for a year now, any predatory man already ignoring laws forbidding assault isn't going to obey a 'bathroom ban'. Making life harder for trans people and many others with restrictions which will be impossible to enforce will do nothing to make any women safer.
Today, a lot of people will be talking about the manifesto that Palantir released. In addition to pouring over what those words mean, I invite you to ground the conversation in what Palantir has already done.
Its work with Israel and ICE show us exactly what it stands for.
Why is it that Democratic politicians are always doing this thing where they legitimize right-wing caricatures of Democrats?
Which Democrats are referring to people in prison as the "justice involved population?" That's just not a thing any elected official is saying.
Really tired of this game, where you pick up an idiotic phrase out of context that has literally never ever been used by a successful politician. And then pretend to be super wise because you’ve stated it’s a dumb phrase for a political leader to use — which everyone on earth already knew.
I'm sorry, but this is utterly unacceptable from Stonewall's new Chair. And entirely unnecessary. Nothing is gained from this except communicating to trans people that Stonewall does not care about them.
This after 40 Dems voted to stop selling arms that enable Israeli genocide in Palestine & adventurism in Lebanon. Mills would be a step back, less awful than Fetterman, but far closer to Fetterman than the base of the party.
But we've got ranked choice voting in Maine and I don't rank genocidaires.
I am not kidding at all when I say that every Democrat with a microphone should mock JD Vance every chance they get between now and 2028. Call him weird and feckless. Laugh at his eyeliner & dumb beard. Talk about the nazis & freaks he follows on Twitter. *Brand* him.
