Happy New Year everyone ✨🎉
Think of Others Mahmoud Darwish Translated by Mohammed Shaheen As you prepare your breakfast, think of others (do not forget the pigeon’s food). As you conduct your wars, think of others (do not forget those who seek peace). As you pay your water bill, think of others (those who are nursed by clouds). As you return home, to your home, think of others (do not forget the people of the camps). As you sleep and count the stars, think of others (those who have nowhere to sleep). As you liberate yourself in metaphor, think of others (those who have lost the right to speak). As you think of others far away, think of yourself (say: “If only I were a candle in the dark”).
A reminder, especially to my godforsaken government.
BREAKING: At least 16 files from the Epstein release disappeared from DOJ's webpage, including a photo of Trump, with no explanation.
I actually DID get raptured, but I came back because I still have some more book events lined up this year. That's just the kinda guy I am.
Cover of DEED. beautiful edition with amazing 'fly pages' inside collage of textured black flowers.
An apostrophe denotes possession. Means to turn toward. Thin hook of ink that joins one body to another by its name.
In one pocket I carry a list of all the places I am prohibited -- bathrooms & airplanes, churches & young adult literature. In the other, a list of all the things I'd have to abandon to be called a woman. I fly 3,000 to a place where no one knows my face or name & joke that there is a boy I'm leaving behind
Day #3 @sealeychallenge.bsky.social read the new torrin a. greathouse book DEED. Intensely propulsive inquiries into trans self/sex work, language, patriarchy, clients/police, sexuality & oppression; a writer w/chops & labyrinthine music - exquisite visions, sculpted lines & politics/poetic.

This image depicts a scene from Arnold Lobel's beloved children's book series, Frog and Toad, specifically an illustration titled "Frog and Toad at Tea". The image features Frog and Toad, the two main characters of the series, inside what appears to be a cozy home. Frog is holding a tray with a teapot and a teacup, suggesting they are preparing for or enjoying tea.

To romanticize the world
is to make us aware of the magic, mystery and wonder of the world;
it is to educate the senses to see the ordinary as extraordinary,
the familiar as strange,
the mundane as sacred,
the finite as infinite.

All it takes to win hearts and minds of those with privilege is to tell them they deserve all the good things they've stolen from everyone else.

Keeping hope alive, as we both are right now, why do so many people not seem to get that it’s already the next level of all of this? I think a lot of this book honestly is me struggling with that question. Here's a guy that, he's got it all laid out in front of him pretty obviously. The people around him get it, from a couple different angles both in the city he's from and where he's living and doing this ethnographic study. As a trans man, as a queer man, he himself had to do something revolutionary, something liberatory, to get the body and the life he wants. And yet there's something standing in the way of looking honestly at the superstructure of the world he lives in. Comfort? Fear? If you admit that It's Happening, well, you kind of know what's next. And that's really terrifying.
Today I talked with @mattielubchansky.com about her delightful new satirical dystopian graphic novel Simplicity. Also about "how it is right now."
