5. Any national or local clinical guidelines and policy must balance the rare risk of misestimation of gestational age against the costs of restricting adolescents' access to abortion care, where disproportionate barriers to care already exist.
4. We found that menstrual dating was accurate and there is a very low risk of misestimation of gestational age.
3. New research from @crrcbpas.bsky.social, published in the journal “Obstetrics and Gynecology” compared the accuracy of self-reported last menstrual period dating for determining gestational age with ultrasound scans, among BPAS patients younger than 16 years old between May 2021 and April 2023.
2. This is based on a concern that safeguarding disclosures may not be effectively picked up in teleconsultations and young people may not be able to accurately report the dates of their last menstrual period- despite a growing body of evidence that suggests this is not the case.
1.❗ New research on young people and abortion ❗
Adolescents often face some of the most complex barriers to abortion care and are frequently excluded from telemedical abortion services based solely on age.
Researchers and healthcare professionals at @ucl.ac.uk are looking for people with lived experience to help shape research on pregnancy, birth and long-term outcomes after pregnancy for survivors of gender-based violence.
See below for more details on participation.

🔦 Spotlight: Dr Julia Bailey @sexunzipped.bsky.social
Dr Bailey’s work challenges binary ideas of sex/gender in SRHR research, urging inclusive, reflexive methods rooted in feminism + queer theory.
Vital reading for abortion + contraception researchers.

What do practice nurses think about medication abortion, and what’s stopping them from doing more?
New 🇦🇺 study finds nurses are underused in abortion care, despite being skilled & well placed to help.
👉 More funding, education & normalisation needed.
