me and my comfort characters 🥰
Can I say something… I feel like the “BookTok is for positivity !!!! :) not politics!” people don’t even like reading, they like the endorphins they get from reading romance/smut
(obviously nothing wrong with that at all but like, being a reader is about engaging with the text, right???)
She comes back every few months to argue with me once again. Like girl I’m sorry that I’m right wtf
Anyways I can’t remember how it ends I’m pretty sure the atheist dad falls in love with Mallory and then she somehow kills both of the kidnapper parents and returns the child to her actual family.
When Mallory discovers this she makes a point to state that she is cool with trans people, but FORCING CHILDREN TO BE TRANS?!? That is wrong!!!
The son is actually a daughter. The atheist parents were hiding the child’s identity by disguising her as a little boy so nobody would suspect them as kidnappers.
Anyways the twist at the end reveals that the ghost possessing the kid was NOT a random woman, but his ACTUAL mother that the atheist mom murdered so that she could be his mother instead. Oh AND-
Ok so a ton of other random stuff happens, the atheist parents and basically everyone else in town doesn’t believe Mallory is experiencing anything paranormal. She must be acting strange because she’s an addict, duh
Obviously the atheist parents don’t believe her because they believe in facts and science and logic and oh aren’t you a former drug addict? How can we trust that you’re even sane? Are you doing drugs again? (Of course she isn’t doing drugs again, she’s cured after all)
So basically Mallory lives in the guest house and she starts to think that it’s being haunted by a woman who was murdered there a long time ago. The kid is drawing scary photos depicting a woman getting murdered. She thinks the ghost is possessing him.
The couple that hires Mallory to nanny their young son are atheist. They expressly do not want anyone teaching their child about religion.
So she’s Christian. But she makes it known that she is cool about religion and doesn’t impose her beliefs on other people.
So this is fine. Lots of people find religion to be helpful in addiction recovery. However Mallory’s addiction is basically cured. There is no nuance surrounding Mallory’s addiction.
From the jump Mallory lets us readers know that she is a devout Christian. She wasn’t very religious before going through rehab for her drug addiction but she is now. Finding God helped her get clean.
So basically it’s about this girl named Mallory who recently got out of rehab and gets a job as a nanny for this rich couple. The kid starts making scary drawings that are provided as supplemental material for the book. The drawings are kind of the whole shtick.
Hidden Pictures is a run-of-the-mill thriller/horror/mystery… OR IS IT?!?
🧵 Let’s talk about one of the worst books I’ve ever read! :)
You know when you’re reading a thriller and you’re screaming CALL 911 and when they actually do go to law enforcement the police don’t believe them and you’re screaming WHY AREN’T YOU EXPLAINING THE SITUATION
My list is short and sweet.
R.F. Kuang
Ava Reid
Leigh Bardugo
Sabaa Tahir
RAVEN CYCLE GRAPHIC NOVEL !!!!!!!
I will say Verity is (and will remain) the only CoHo book I’ve read and as far as thrillers go it’s not, like, terrible. But it is just a lot of dark and edgy things for the sake of being dark and edgy.
No… ANNE NO
Need someone to have a Billie Eilish look alike contest because I swear I will show up in full cosplay. Seeing some of these winners really makes me think I have a chance
It’s SO good
A Deadly Education…
