a comic book-sized publication in protective plastic sitting on a dark grey background. the cover features a gorgeous lancetfish, it’s body curved roughly in an S shape, with its broad dorsal fin fully outstretched.
a page within the book, which features detailed photographs of two cephalopods: onykia loennbergyi and cycloteuthis sirventi. there are enlarged images of the tentacle clubs of each squid, as well as one showing a sucker of the onykia.
the copy i ordered of @satokatu.bsky.social’s lancetfish dissection project arrived today. this is by far one of the coolest things i’ve found out about via twitter, and is an incredibly thorough record of midwater prey species consumed by alepisaurus ferox near japan.
Squid swing by for a peek.

Four images to illustrate some prominent single-gene myths. Top left shows a photograph of a person deftly rolling their tongue into a U-shape. Top right shows a photograph of a person’s ear, highlighting the shape and features of the earlobe and cartilage. Bottom left shows a close-up photograph of a person’s eye, with a vivid blue colouration. Bottom right shows a photograph of a person poised to write with their left hand on the blank white page of a spiral-bound notebook.
Remember when you first learned about genetics at school? All those fascinating examples of human traits that are each apparently determined by just a single gene? Time to check in on some of your favourites to see how they’re doing. 🧬🧵🧪 1/n

We brake for nautilus!
“We usually stopped what we were doing whenever we saw nautilus, b/c they are such amazing animals to watch,” said #VisioningCoralSea Chief Scientist Dr. Robin Beaman of James Cook University. This enigmatic cephalopod navigated the depths before dinosaurs roamed the Earth!

A few weeks ago CBC reporter Sheena Goodyear reached out to me for comment on the new Spinosaurus paper. I said I couldn’t, because of Epstein connection Nathan Myhrvold’s involvement with it. We got to talking about how paleontology - especially dinosaur research- remains hostile to women. 🧪
Three juvenile glass squid, one in green with yellow spots one in blue with orange spots and one pink with blue spots, each of which have a little yellow bar in the middle of their mantles are suspended in the air in this little doodle. Each of them has an ink blob below them that says get squid Facts text 1833 sci text and then my handle sarahmackattack
Alright I sent stickers to the printer. Each squid and ink blob will be their own die cut sticker. It’s gonna be cute.
They should be here in a couple of days. I made them for the streets of my fair city but I put some up on the squid facts shop too SquidFacts.net

Great news!! “Murphy issued a preliminary ruling finding that Kennedy’s reconstitution of a key vaccine advisory panel, and changes made to the childhood vaccine schedule in January, were likely illegal. Specifically, he ruled, those policy changes violated the Administrative Procedure Act”

Minnesotans deserve restitution from ICE's terror campaign.
The ICE surge cost Minneapolis $200 million in just one month. That’s before overtime, charter flights, and detention contracts.
Taxpayers shouldn’t be forced to subsidize their own trauma.
