For all the glory of Star Wars and Raiders, the theme from Superman is my favorite John Williams piece. It's exactly right and one of the smartest things James Gunn did was incorporate it into the music for the most recent Superman movie.

It's solid. My favorite on it is "'39." I get that, like most bands, most of their output is meh or worse. But "The Miracle" and "Innuendo" were solid records. "A Kind of Magic" had some clunkers, but the hits are pretty solid on it. I also dig the title track to an unreasonable extent.

My hot take response to this is that they were improving through the 80s and that, their last complete record was their best, taken in its entirety.

Also, "Bohemian Rhapsody" is at best the third-best song on "A Night at the Opera."

I don't know if this counts as a conspiracy theory, but I'm not 100% sure that time travelers aren't constantly altering the timeline.

...should I be looking for? It's my first interaction with this kind of text, since I never progressed to the "researching musty old texts" portion of my PhD before it cratered. ๐Ÿ—ƒ๏ธ

Through the grace of my amazing and totally badass wife and her connections, I'm going to get to spend a little time tomorrow with a 12th-century Gospel manuscript. It came from the same library as the Archimedes Palimpsest and has similar forged decorations! So, #medievalsky, what... ๐Ÿ—ƒ๏ธ

Aliens built the great medieval cathedrals. There's no way those primitives could have managed it.

(this is a joke, in case it isn't clear. obviously aliens only built magnificent structures in places where Black and brown people live, amirite?)

(that last part was also a joke. in case...)

..."Christian" because of it. Believers of conscience, who are appalled at the actions of MAGA Christians need to get past this. So do secularly-oriented intellectuals.

To repeat: Christianity is no more and no less that WHAT CHRISTIANS (and this means people who call themselves "Christian") do. /5

...do you start? With Jesus? Not a Christian. With Paul? Not Jesus. With Nicaea? Only Christians in the Roman orbit. Since there were Christians, there have been Christians that, for one reason or another, other Christians haven't recognized as Christians. They were, and are, no less... 4/

I spent a lot of time poring over work about whether this or that group that was called "heretical" in the middle ages was ACTUALLY heretical (as opposed to "reformist" or "proto-reformist" or whatever). Here's the thing. Were the heretics actually heretics? Yes, because they were labeled... 1/

Who's an "actual" Christian? Someone who claims to worship Christ. Christianity is what Christians do. That's it.
