Another angle of the same bowl of grapes and the pair fused together.

Conjoined grapes! I've never seen such a thing before and I've eaten a fair few grapes in my time. 😮

It's a dark and stormy night. Thanks to Storm Darragh. We just lost electricity for a moment. Peered through the curtains and got a glimpse of swirling leaves. There's a maelstrom in the gloom out there. Lovely.

There's a US version too though I'm less familiar with that, so not gonna recommend... though I expect it's worth a listen too!

If anyone is interested in a podcast on UK politics from a somewhat middle-of-the-road perspective (and yes I know no one wants middle-of-the-road these days) I recommend The Rest is Politics.

I've been catching up with my favourite podcast, (@coodestreet.bsky.social) and apparently Kij Johnson has a new book out soon.
I just want to say I feel it has the best title ever: The Privilege of the Happy Ending. ☺️

Webb finds carbon source on surface of Jupiter’s moon Europa Jupiter’s moon Europa is one of a handful of worlds in our Solar System that could potentially harbour conditions suitable for life. Previous research has shown that beneath its water-ice crust lies...

Ooooh, new evidence from the James Webb Space Telescope that the fishy aliens in my novel set on Jupiter's moon Europa might be real! How exciting!

As an actual dwarf myself I feel like I should be offended, but... nope. Isn't it delightful? 😀

Seriously though, a lot of people (especially men, I think) with dwarfism are mocked or even physically assaulted for their size, so I have a lot of sympathy with those who hate this sort of thing.

Nods. I can't manage without a "reverse outline" though--to help me remember what I've written, not to tell me what to write.

Is the problem you've half forgotten it? If so I'd just start reading it & it'll probably come back soon enough. Do you have an outline? If not making one is a great way to refamiliarise yourself with the thing. I've abandoned my book and gone back to it many times... Never give up, never surrender!

Indeed. People blame the algorithms for sowing division and argument, but I've never been convinced they're the primary problem. As fiction writers, frankly it's obvious what the problem is: people are drawn to conflict.

Posted my thoughts on Facebook - don't know if I will say much in other places

These moments are super demoralizing, even when I'm not directly involved

I -hate- that it takes CC Finlay revealing things he didn't necessarily want to reveal in order for a lot of ppl to just stop. and. think.

I've just realised. I'm watching Stranger Things in a house with notoriously dodgy electricity. 🙄

Sheree Renée Thomas has been a transformative editor at F&SF, publishing essential writers and stories. She doesn't deserve the problem she currently has to deal with there. But it doesn't surprise me that she has been forced to deal with it without publisher support.

Anger is most powerful emotion by far for spurring climate action, study finds Link to climate activism is seven times stronger for anger than it is for hope, say Norwegian researchers

In my view one of the most fascinating topics anyone can study is political psychology--and also one of the most important. So here's a Guardian article about the psychology of climate change activism. Enjoy!

Q:Some of your books make it seems like you believe in actual literal magic, do you? ()
A: I can write down a few words and make people thousands of miles away, whom I have never met and will never meet, laugh tears of joy and cry tears of true sorrow for people who do not exist and have never existed and never will exist. If that isn't actual literal magic I don't know what is.

Reposting this from Tumblr myself because otherwise people will be posting it tomorrow and other people will be asking if I said it.

A Change in Crew | Escape Pod As Octavia Butler said, "All that you touch you change. All that you change changes you. The only lasting truth is change." Escape Pod is changing as our longtime Assistant Editor, Ben Kinney…

It is with great bittersweetness that I announce my retirement from Escape Pod. I've had a wonderful time & accomplished so much since 2017, but there comes a time in every writer/scientist/editor/parent's life to move on before they burn out.

Love to all who worked, read, & submitted!
