A reminder of one of the loveliest pairs of siblings in the dictionary: ‘muscle’ and ‘mouse’. To the Roman imagination, the flexed biceps of a (typically naked) athlete resembled a rodent scuttling under the skin. ‘Musculus’, in Latin, means ‘little mouse’.

Demented old man looks out of window.
Daleks and Ogrons playing on the lawn.
I would have been about that age the first time my parents took me to an orchestral concert - a Rachmaninov piano concerto and a Martinu symphony. Lifelong love of classical music created right there.
I wouldn't worry too much about the programme. The experience is what counts.
Decades of mechanistic talk about university degrees as if they were bundles of 'skills' and 'prep' are about to be proved completely wrong (obviously). Want to get a real boost? Do History or English.
Also, I love Graham. And Dan.
Mind you, Orphan 55 is still irredeemably awful. But there’s always (at least) one.
Following 13’s surprise appearance in The Reality War, I have been rewatching all of Jodie’s stories and, honestly, they’re brilliant. Exactly what Doctor Who should be. The Doctor and her mates running around the universe, having fun adventures together.
And it looks incredible.

And an exposition heavy episode 1 where nothing really happens, and there’s a lot of narrative vamping has always been how he writes two-part finales.
You can’t blame him for doing what’s always worked in the past… #DoctorWho
Like, have people not been paying attention? Bringing back a big bad from the series’ history has always been RTD’s modus operandi for his season finales.
Series 1: The Daleks
Series 2: Daleks vs Cybermen
Series 3: The Master
Series 4: Davros

Just out of interest, are there any Time Lords that *didn’t* survive the multiple destructions of Gallifrey? #doctorwho
Finished this last night. Can *highly* recommend.
Our school library’s copy of ‘Lady Chatterley’s Lover’ notoriously fell open at certain pages.
Not sure if anyone ever read the non-naughty parts…
Hey, @theguardian.com! Just updated to the new Daily Editions app. How do I do the crossword?
A classic peanuts strip where Schroeder buys a copy of Brahms 4 just to listen to it. Lucy is incredulous
This strip might be my favorite Schroeder bit. Presses the right buttons of music collecting and classical appreciation
Word of the day is ‘forswunk’ (13th century): exhausted by work.
I like to add ‘foreswunk’, exhausted before you even begin.
Whenever someone suggests that “They should teach (x) in school,” they should be forced by law to outline what they would remove from the curriculum to make space for it, and explain why.
I’m watching Blitz on Apple TV, and for the last half hour I’ve been trying to place one of the actors, thinking, “He looks a lot like Paul Weller, but I can’t place him at all. I wonder what I’ve seen him in before?”
I’ve just looked him up. Guess what: www.imdb.com/title/tt1593...
The "bluesky is an echo chamber" think pieces that keep popping up really tickle me because they show how certain people genuinely believe social media should be for debating and arguing and not talking about the things that make you happy and sharing art with the world.
Sitting in a German class, aged 14, when the door burst open, one of the Art teachers ran in and exclaimed, “She’s gone!”
And, without further explanation, everybody in the room knew exactly what she meant. And, being the west of Scotland, cheered.
