To be honest I have been neck deep myself in the ml research that has been done and is being done right now (that is publicly released) and a lot of really interesting citizen research is being done right now and highly specialized local models are (I believe) the future.

This is essentially mixture of experts but at the model level. A lot of people see a future of highly specialized models and the tools to swap them in for each individually decomposed task.
