If you’re ever near Alnwick in Northumberland, make sure you visit the White Swan hotel. They have a lot of fittings from the Olympic in situ.

Not one of their stand out tracks for me, but they released some great power pop singles as part of the mod revival tide in 79/80. Maybe Tomorrow is a classic.
This conversation wouldn’t happen in a hundred years on X 😂😂
Some classic Gedge lyrics
James Carr version is stunning
Top ten for me
Drove to Edinburgh to see them in the days before t’interweb. Discovered they hadn’t been allowed into the country…
And a 126 years later a Pallas’ gull is flying around in the UK - a nice coincidence
We (St Mary’s Monkseaton) have one available if needed. It’s called the North Sea, it’s about 400m down the road, and has been used several times!
Saw them live in 1979. ‘March of the mods’ tour in a venue that usually hosted a rock night that night. Absolute scenes. Memorable for all the wrong reasons.
Fonts are woefully under appreciated!
You’re missing a treat with St Andrew’s. It’s a stunning Arts and Crafts church with fabulous paintings, decorations and (I think) William Morris carpets! Well worth a visit if you’re in the area.
Superb.
Do you know the podcast ‘A history of rock music in 500 songs’? Latest episode is ‘Pinball Wizard’, and ‘Lily’ is featured. Great podcast, well worth subscribing to. Available on Patreon with extras or via Spotify.
Beans? What is wrong with you?
Many happy hours spent at the ‘Spanner’ as a youngster, and still head along there regularly. My own wee tribute - not as famous as Mr Knoppfler’s, but I like it!
simply magnificent
One of the best tracks from the mod revival.
Oh my life - that is rather wonderful.
Oh yes. Album version is a Top three song. A definite headphones moment.
It’s a great podcast, but the episodes are getting longer, more complicated and less regular. I applaud the detail but prefer the older, more concise broadcasts from a few years ago. But it’s his show, so fair play to him for the huge amount of research he must do.
Melys, supporting the Wedding Present in Galashiels, then Carlisle. Previous topped Peel’s Festive 50, but I didn’t know them at all. Well worth a listen.
Fabulous album, often overlooked because of the first Specials and Madness LPs.
I’d park my Lambretta next to you, but it’s Indian.
Alan J put seed out recently but apparently they completely ignored it!
Very poor. Didn’t deserve anything and - as fans - we’ll now have to put up with months of grief from mates, acquaintances and colleagues.
The hairs on the back of my neck still stand up when I hear that intro
The original by Prince Buster is pretty much the only song my daughter won’t let me play!
I remember riding up to a record store in Newcastle with the Setting Sons to buy it when it was released. Parked up outside in front of the queue and felt like the coolest bloke…
