Honestly my biggest gripe with online services these days is how "remember me" is so often a straight up lie. I return a couple days later and I'm logged out again. I understand the security behind shorter session timeouts, but then don't give me a misleading option as a user. Stop it.

The AT medals in Trackmania the current weekly shorts are so easy that I was able to one shot them as a beginner who hasn't played the game in years. I'm not about to compete for world records, so nothing left for me to strive for. Predictable maps with participation trophies. Boring.
Default tab width should be a system level setting like language and timezone.
when you examine a text written by a human you can find layers and layers of meaning and intentionality, the complexity of the human conscious, an opportunity for one mind to commune with another outside the bounds of time and space. when you examine AI text you drown in a teaspoon of nothing.
the ai bot isn’t “admitting” its secrets to you or “revealing” its creators intentions it’s just a word generating machine generating words the only meaning is that which you read into it and imo that should be none
Steam Replay 2024. 16 games played. 60 achievements. 338 sessions. 4 new games. Most played games by percentage of playtime. 28% Last Epoch. 27% Hitman World of Assassination. 20% Baldur's Gate 3. 8% Divinity Original Sin 2. 8% Warframe.
This isn't entirely unique to Veilguard, but the phenomenon is especially strong here, and it highlights how marketing of new games in long-running series often fail to set accurate expectations for the game.
Veilguard has been interesting to follow as most vocal criticism of it seems to come from people who loved the older games and were jumping back into that universe. The new artstyle and lighthearted tone seem to appeal to players new to the series while leaving many old fans feeling weird about it.
With growing distrust in traditional media outlets and more people primarily getting their news via social media, there’s real potential and danger that a plan like that might succeed. Certain countries already use a wide array of disinformation tactics. AI advancements will revolutionise it.
Before long we’re going to see adversarial governments create multiple seemingly independent news agencies that appear privately owned, which will garner popularity over years before subtly switching to deep fakes. This may already be a plan being executed.
"Any sufficiently advanced incomptence is indistinguishable from malice."
Sooner or later a real product is going to ship with AI-generated instructions that no-one thoroughly double-checked and it's going to cause real harm and lawsuits. I'm just waiting to see the day at this point.
it's kinda weird how more people respect the requirement to carry a piece of plastic with you when driving than the requirement to pay attention so you don't kill someone
Keeping track of email delivery using @cloudflare.social 's DMARC management (beta) is actually really nice.
Changed back to i3 from hyprland and dropped total system power consumption from 99W to 54W in its typical state. In a month that saves me a couple of euros.

Gave an overdue face-lift and bug fix to my old unicode converter r.3v.fi/unicode/ I use it almost weekly and hopefully it can be of use to someone else too.
With Ubisoft calling Skull & Bones "the first AAAA" video game, I can only assume the number of As just means how ass the game is. I can usually find some redeeming quality in games from large studios but there doesn't seem to be any here.
Love the ambiguity of “did it die or is that a partial bucket” of the last datapoint in each graph
The old ICE cars aren't immune to cold either. Mine has been unable to function for much of the past 3 weeks because some of the electronics freeze preventing the car from starting, even if it has plenty of battery otherwise.
I think they’d be much more open to them if they too had to follow electricity prices with a close eye to not spend a small fortune on it
These throwable fire extinguishers seem like a real-life example of xkcd.com/937 — they have really good reviews from everyone except the few people who tried using them to put out fires
I don't even have swiping enabled on my card. I literally cannot use it. Luckily, as things are around here, it has been years since I've had to use something other than tapping with my phone (Apple/Google Pay), and it was because the shop only took cash.
You're half the reason I even open bsky. Everyone, who thinks you're a loser, is just wrong.
the single dimension of recommendation algorithms today fails to account for varying desires. i'll have a hard time finding chill content if i usually relate to contagious super energetic content. engaging with lots of different content can end up in recs being a blend that doesn't work at all
