1. Wear comfortable clothing. You'll walk a decent bit!
2. Bring water and snacks. Treat it like an indoor hike. There's minimal time between panels.
3. Pick 2-3 top panels per day -- my brain goes to mush eventually if I go back to back to back all day
4. OFF SITE EVENTS OFF SITE EVENTS OFF SITE EV

Any other writers on here submitting materials to the Writer to Agent program at #AWP?

It's very fun and very overwhelming. Skews hard toward literary crowd rather than genre, panels are fun but 2-3 a day is plenty or your brain will go slushy, book fair is huge and fun, off-site events can be some of the coolest moments of the whole thing. Bring snacks and keep a TBR list!

My modern, postpartum Gothic novel with religious tones and unhinged night feedings is in your inbox!

I thought writing meant 1,000-word sessions and polishing as I went.

It turns out 200-word sprints and messy bullet lists and [fix this later] gives me the material I need to mold into something beautiful.

Reminder that it's okay to use this day for rest. It's okay to give candy to your kids, grill food with your loved ones, lie in the sun, watch fireworks if you like them and ponder what you want this country to represent.

No kings. Liberty and Justice FOR ALL.

I'm just saying, when I finally read a certain obituary I'm going to the bookstore with a roller suitcase and buying every single book I please.

fwiw, i don’t personally think that either doomerism OR toxic positivity is what this moment calls for; i think what we actually need to be collectively looking towards is a secret third thing (hopepunk)

it’s cool and important to give a shit, and to look for ways to help each other.

Passed the midpoint on my revision! Balancing the tension between horror and tenderness. I love the freedom horror offers to explore emotions we usually aren't allowed to voice aloud.

The real gap between fanfic writing and original writing is how you think about word count.

Original fic: I wrote 74K words, a whole damn book, what an accomplishment!!

Fanfic: I wrote 68K, a cute lil snack, an easy one-sitting read💅

How do you feel about a re-query after extensive revision?

I have an upmarket horror novel (spooky, psychological) that could be right up your alley! A point of clarity -- my story includes details of stillbirth and intrusive PPD/anxiety thoughts. I'm not writing children suffering but stillbirth is on page. Should I query you?

I did no-mow May and accidentally ended up with a lawn that's ~80% clover and I love it so much. Flowers are blooming, my kids go barefoot in soft clover and the honeybees are far too happy to sting anyone

My favorite part of revision is looking for openings. In horror, and Gothic especially, the surroundings are such a tantalizing playground to show how a character is changing, even if she doesn't realize it yet. It's so fun to add telling details or description.

I love October as much as any basic white girl, but I'm sick of the "only 126 days until it's cold again" posts. I'm trying to find more love for ALL the seasons, not live for a short stretch of favorite weather

For anyone who needs to know:
Your librarian can order books from other branches.
They can order interlibrary loan from branches outside their system.
They can order from university libraries.

I made up a PhD dissertation title based on ✨vibes✨ I wanted and she found books for me. Ask librarians.

Mothers spinning wildly between joyful and drowning
Mothers with empty arms
Mothers facing CD1 instead of their BFP
Daughters with no one to call
Daughters mothering themselves better than the woman who birthed them could
Mothers getting kicked from the inside

I see you. Happy Mother's Day 💐

Shout-out to mothers whose toddler is crying because:
- he got one blueberry with the tiny stem left in it
- she wants her jacket but only one sleeve and is furious that the rest of the jacket hangs behind her
- you won't let them drink the water in the base of the plant pot
- the sun is too high
