If you haven't had a chance yet, check out Tearscape from @nerdstakeover.bsky.social on Steam! It's truly made for souls-like enjoyers, and is the first *indie* I've played to capture the right vibe!
One of the ideas we experimented with during development for the OFF remaster was 3D battle arenas for boss fights. Think something in the style of Octopath Traveler.
Here's the model I made for Dedan's office.
A BLIZZARD RAGES. Lone survivor, you are STRANDED upon a FRIGID CORPSE-PLANET. THEY seek your warmth, sucking Soul from the shadows. AND TONIGHT, THE WIND IS YOUR CLOSEST SEMBLANCE OF A FRIEND.
WISHLIST THERMOCLINE NOW!

Due to the impending release of Silksong, I've decided to wait until after it releases and I've played it to start development on my next project.
Thank you for your understanding this important wait in our development history 🙏
only if it's also eligible for my "indie games inspired by magic the gathering" list!
but in all seriousness, I can't speak to @mortisghost.bsky.social's original influences better than he can, but this boss WAS mechanically influenced by Persona/SMT :)
Picture is of the boss, Carnival, from the 2025 remake of OFF.
Fun fact!
Each of the new bosses in OFF (2025) had mechanics inspired by their core themes, but the idea for Carnival's mechanic came from a reddit comment...
"What if OFF used the press-turn/1-more system from Persona?"
As a fan, I simply couldn't resist :)

omg… 1000 reviews and overwhelmingly positive
thank you, thank you! so glad to see everyone enjoying the re-release of OFF!!

I have been truly lucky and blessed to work alongside some incredible folks the past couple of years. On new projects, old projects, stuff I can talk about and stuff that I can't.
But the consistent thing? I am grateful to be surrounded by immense talent. Truly. 💖

Bonus post, from the archives. I really love Xenogears.
If you're new to what I do... I make RPGs! But I got my start studying them, academically. So, over the next few days, I'll post some of the best graphs about videogame design history.
First up: Nishikado motion. This is the central voice of videogames.
This was my first OG piece of concept art i did for #MyFamiliarRPG 🐭💎🐦

Everything is hard without context-- it's about breaking things into smaller things you CAN do, and just doing that a bunch. Eventually you've accomplished more than you ever thought you could!
