It’s a hard balance to strike. Some people expect otome games to have a protagonist specifically written to be a woman, while others are fine if the MC can just be interpreted to be a woman. Tagging your gender neutral-selectable-pronouns game as otome could make the former feel like—
Sometimes a gender neutral protagonist doesn’t work because what gender you are does affect the story.
