Levenfish did not play in the Great Britain-USSR match London 1947 when he had warmly greeted an acquainted emigre there. Also, he was never to go abroad again. After Rotterdam 1988 Malaniuk was detained for 15 days as he had been seated at a closing banquet table with Korchnoi. #chess

Kramnik pictured in Linares; 1993 was his 1st tournament there. He has fond memories of Karpov's reaction (in a deadlost position, almost no time left) to an irregular pawn promotion by Kasparov.

It is the story as told by Kasparov (Kasparov on Kasparov 1985-1993). The story goes on, perhaps the photo was taken a bit later? Curious about the clip!

Correct! :) As is C! Kupreichik won this way vs Razuvaev, Dubna Young Masters 1970, where he tied 1st with Vaganian and...Tukmakov! Thus the latter had an easy game later that year in the USSR Ch 1970 vs. Doroshkevich, who successfully :) avoided the Grunfeld, but then fell for this trick too.
