$30m an hour: big oil reaping huge war windfall from consumers, analysis finds Exclusive: Climate action blockers including Saudi Arabia, Russia and major fossil fuel firms set to make extra $234bn by end of 2026 * Middle East crisis – live updates * Business live – latest updates The world’s top 100 oil and gas companies banked more than $30m every hour in unearned profit in the first month of the US-Israeli war in Iran, according to exclusive analysis for the Guardian. Saudi Aramco, Gazprom and ExxonMobil are among the biggest beneficiaries of the bonanza, meaning key opponents of climate action continue to prosper. The conflict pushed the price of oil to an average of $100 (£74) a barrel in March, leading to estimated windfall war profits for the month of $23bn for the companies. Oil and gas supplies will take months to return to pre-war levels and the companies will make $234bn by the end of the year if the oil price continues to average $100. The analysis uses data from leading intelligence provider Rystad Energy, analysed by Global Witness. Continue reading...

I’m reading The Technological Republic by Alex Karp…

How much of this is written by AI?

@neguse.house.gov @bennet.senate.gov @hickenlooper.senate.gov

I am a constituent. I am opposed to renewing Section 702 of FISA. The Federal Gov't and Big Business have been surveilling Americans for too long. It must stop. Section 702 is part of that abuse.

Restore America's bedrock privacy.

Looks like you’ve decided to run for reelection. Why? You’d rather be in a race with Fetterman for the most Senate confirmations of Trump appointees than start a new business? Perhaps create the first AI-designed beer?

Just watched Patrick Boyle’s YouTube from a couple of hours ago on Meta’s loss of $US88B on the Metaverse. The hype for that is a model for the AI hype. Zuckerberg is such a powerful trendsetter.

Too Big to Succeed.

The Crusades were over by the 14th century. The Pope knows that. Hegseth doesn’t. Someone, send Hegseth a history textbook so Hegseth can catch up with the rest of us.

Someone else, invent a Time Machine so that we can sent Hegseth back to the 11th Century, where he belongs.

Emergency vehicles were dispatched. Didn’t hear anything on the scanner app. Maybe fire was out by the time I started listening.

This fire didn’t make it to @watchduty.org, which is disconcerting, as it was potentially the most dangerous fire I’ve seen to threaten my home. The winds are high but the fire was brief. Maybe it was a car fire, but it smell of wood fire. Not electrical.

There was a fire west of Niwot less than an hour ago. Lots of smoke. Quickly dissipated. Anyone know what happened? Thanks.

Loved talking with Charlie. Always will have complicated feelings about the Bird but I continue to see new things (beautiful, terrible) in its history.

Hick, we all know what we need. Now tell us what you’ve done to deliver it. Which universal healthcare bills have you sponsored and what was their outcome? Include during Biden’s term.

How senators voted on Trump Cabinet nominees, 2025 Ballotpedia: The Encyclopedia of American Politics

John Hickenlooper has voted to approve trump's cabinet nominees 10 times and doesn't support universal health care. He is way too moderate to be Colorado's senator.

@hickenlooper.senate.gov, you voted to confirm Bessent for Treasury. Are you happy with that decision? Have you apologized to your constituents yet?

You are twice accused of violating the STOCK act.

When are you planning to announce that you are not running for reelection?

From WWII until Reagan, the highest federal tax rate didn’t go below 70%. During WWII it got up to 94%. War is expensive. Tax the rich!

When the next D POTUS is elected, they cannot say let’s not look back. They have to implement all of the choices that polls have shown a majority to support.

@colorado.gov should not free Peters. Polis says her sentence is too long. He could reduce it. Have her serve until the end of Trump’s term. Don’t completely pardon her!

I think that research has finally figured out how the human brain works. It’s like generative AI. Experience, learning language, hearing and reading words, then you can predict next word in the sentence. That’s all, folks. Generative Natural Intelligence.

All computation is conscious.

We need to tax *investment*. Not capital gains, but *capital*. If you have extra capital to use to make more unneeded capital, then you should give 25% off the top to society. You still have 75% of your excess to gain more excess. All corporate and private investment.

There is so much disposable wealth in the wallets of wild-eyed fools who run around like squirrels looking for the next nut to nab. They will buy into every fad. They’ve been taught that it’s dumb to invest in sensible, beneficial, helpful causes.

Whose idea was it to launch a campaign about driving on psychedelics and label it “natural medicine”? That’s stupidly vague.

Did they ask their narcissistic AI how valuable it thinks it is in order to get that number?
