I like Pocketcasts! It can sometimes be a touch slower to receive new episodes but I like their layout and interface enough to be worth it imo

Oh this is so sweet thank you Fio! I’d like to also throw in a rec for Something to be Proud of by Anna Zoë Quirke - a very wholesome easy read about teenagers working together to organise the first accessible pride parade in their small fictional town (in what seems to be Greater Manchester)

Right there with you, it’s taken me years and is still slow going but! It’s going!

silly eel poem My mother makes a face when I lead her, excited, to the block print in the display case. “Isn’t it cute?” “Ugh, it looks like a snake.” I look at the silver curve of the eel in the painting, an oxbow ...

I said at 25% I would write a stupid eel poem. And then my dumbass said I'd do a dramatic reading.

I keep my promises.

A graphic with an eel in a beret, with a paintbrush and easel. Text reads Eel fact:
Eels are natural artists. They have a lot of great creative ideas. But it’s hard to pay for art supplies when you don’t have a job or hands. Will you donate to allow eels to chase their spark?

Bonus addition: didn’t like being back in the city so I went to Lyme Park to soften the blow

I’m about to spend a few days in the Lake District with nary a laptop in sight and it’s going to be absolute BLISS

(If my agent sees this I’m joking it’s a joke. I’ve got at least seven laptops with me and I’m getting SO much writing done)

Might have had a bit of a breakdown when I realised none of my shorts fit me any more, but the stress of shopping for new ones turned out to be worth it after finding the perfect pair 😎

The part about acting out panic attacks is REAL. Pretending to have a panic attack turns out to be a sure fire way to start actually having one 🥴

In January, my family and I avoided eviction thanks to this amazing community. Sadly, we’re in that spot again. We need $1,500 by end of day or must quickly relocate and board our animals (one is my ESA). Any help means the world to me and my family. I tried making a gofundme but it’s in purgatory

As someone who very much gets this, I’m so glad you’re making the best choice for you 🥰 take your time, your listeners will be here whenever you’re ready and both you and the show will be better for it ❤️

Moral panics fade, and we will outlive them.

We’ve seen a lot of evidence recently that laws mean almost nothing. They can be overturned on the whims of a government or passing moral panic.

The beauty of this is that it works both ways. It’s hard not feel utterly fucked by this ruling, but we can (and will) see the tides change again (1/2)

Once again I remind people that laws should not be your guiding heuristic on how you view or treat others.

Laws are built on the biased and often bigoted sensibilities of the powerful.

Empathy and basic decency (as defined in a way not dependent on anyone's legal status) are a better foundation.

I’m so grateful to everyone behind the scenes at Harper Fire and PFD who have been supportive, kind and thoughtful throughout. And I sincerely cannot wait for Listen Closely to come out (hah) in July. (5/6)

I was scared to commit to something that felt so public, scared that I might risk alienating people. Now though? Now, I’m proud to publish as Leon Egan, and incredibly excited to see *my* name on a book cover — not my younger self, but the person I’ve fought so hard to become. (4/6)

When Lover Birds first came out, I already knew my name didn’t fully fit me anymore, but I wanted to honour my younger self – I wanted to honour their dream to see the name Leanne Egan on a book cover someday. But another, quieter part of me was just a little scared (3/6)

It feels especially fitting that the first book to be published under my new name is Listen Closely: a story about two trans kids who each feel like they have to be someone they aren’t to get by in the world, and one that celebrate trans and nonbinary experiences. (2/6)
