16 years ago, the BP oil spill devastated the environment and the communities in the Gulf of Mexico. Now, Interior is green-lighting BP’s even riskier, even deeper Kaskida offshore oil project to drill up profits and export oil abroad—all at the expense of our environment.
There are a few billionaires and billionaire families that are literally ruining the country and the planet for everyone else in order to enrich themselves even further. The Koch brothers are among the worst.
The current geopolitical mess hopefully pushes a significant transition towards EVs, wind/solar and heatpumps to insulate ordinary households from energy use in heating and transport.
Next we should talk about how to make agriculture more resilient to both climate change and energy shocks.

Heat pumps are the most efficient heating technology ever invented.
They harvest and compress pre existing heat in the air, ground or water and transport it where it is needed.
That energy is all around us.
And it does not have to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

How will they respond? They’ll start pushing more plastic and other oil-based products for sure, gaslighting us into believing we can’t live without them.
Seattle: there is a proposal to build five of these things in our city. Yes, really.
Look at what happened when water was privatised and hedge funds got involved. It’s only going one way. If the values behind choices aren’t right, the outcome will be wrong.

Vertical farming has not taken off because it was a Solarpunk vision in a capitalist system. Nurture it in a world with Solarpunk values and it would be a different matter.
Post offices are part of the lifeblood of communities. We need to protect them. We can’t just see the Post Office as a profi-making enterprise; it’s a service we all need.
I co-sponsored this bill which aims to give chalk streams UNESCO world heritage status. These important habitats, 85% of which are in the UK, are at risk of drying out. Let’s protect the homes of plants, fish and aquatic mammals🌱🐠🦦

France 🇫🇷 doubles electrification support to €10bn/year through 2030 — EVs, heat pumps, industry.
The reason?
The Strait of Hormuz crisis making fossil fuel dependence impossible to ignore.
Geopolitical shocks don’t just raise prices. They change what’s politically possible.
What I like best about the Artemis II photos is that it was taken by actual humans. An actual person had to frame it and manually adjust settings. It's their own artistic rendition of what they thought looked best at the time, something no probe, rover or unmanned spacecraft can take. it's art
A photo of a sign next to a pond and wildflowers, with trees in the background, saying: Developers see 'unused land'. Wildlife sees the last place to stay alive.
Yes, human use is not the only use - and all uses are interdependent.
This is one of the worst planning decisions I’ve ever seen a Canadian city do. This was “the Playbook” to a tee, weaponizing the words “blanket zoning.” Embarrassing for Calgary Council. The Mayor then adds insult to staff & years of good faith work by claiming it “broke the public’s trust.”
Awful.
We are making progress, but slower than we would like. We have one working studio, nearly got a newsroom and a second studio framed up but we still have an office and a lot of work to complete. If anyone is available to come to Stirling to lend a hand, please get in touch.
Thanks
The semiotics of this post. Will these words have greater weight because we are looking at a white man in a suit (arriving very laterally at this conclusion) as opposed to groups of protestors who’ve seen things coming for decades? Almost certainly with some.

🪝Overfishing is decimating our seas and we need to act now to save them. Since Hollywood won’t help us spread the word, it looks like we’ll need the PM to do his job instead. Sign our petition to get the government to stop overfishing in UK waters! 🐟

“Paris has embarked on a grand transformation, planting 155k trees, adding hundreds of kms of bike lanes, pedestrianising 300 school streets and banning cars from the banks of the Seine. Parking has been turned into green space…Fewer parents fear their child being run over when they walk to school.”
Just received my copy of this and it’s rather lovely. High quality paper and printing. And eel info.
This is terrifying, frankly. We should regulating this stuff out of existence. But of course war propels it forward.
