Well done mate. The Senna of researchers!

Yep. This car was a big deal in its early post war years. Soon overtaken in desirability by “Australia’s Own”, the locally-built Holden, launched in 1948.

Cheers Andrew. All best to you too. Nice, neutral handler as I recall (can the Xj40 really be 40?) but that level of body roll would be pretty unfashionable today

Amazing thing is, Ford paid actual money for this, when covers were ads. How enormously things have changed! Publishers definitely poorer for it…

Never went in one of these. Wonder if they were any good…

Factoid: A classic slogan, simple memorable copy, great illustrations - a distinctly classy way to end the factoid week - bye for now 👋

I owe my career to Ian Fraser. He took a risk on a rough-arsed, 29year old Aussie and took him into the CAR fold, a wonderful opportunity. I learned enormously from Frase and from Mel Nichols, the editor, and had some of the happiest times of my life. RIP

What an honour to a) get a generous intro to this space from @thecarfactoids and b) to recall having been present 40-plus years ago at Renault’s invention of body roll.
Greetings all!
