The Mecha-Drago in EarthBound 64, letting out a tear.
The same scene as per the GBA version of Mother 3.
random EB64 observation: before I played Mother 3, I thought that this (unknown to me at the time) robo dinosaur was in front of some fire background. Only after playing Mother 3, I realised it's the scene of the Mecha-Drago collapsing after fighting Flint, & letting out a single tear before dying…

Welcome to the World of MOTHER 3
Shogo Sakai has prepared a special short talking about his feelings regarding Mother 3's 20th anniversary!
Has English subtitles!

20 years ago today… a ROM for Mother 3 leaked online, a mere day before the game's official Japanese release. Here's a video from the 19th of April 2006, of someone playing this leaked ROM. youtu.be/QmGHZ9ne48A

Not so fun fact: Flint is mentioned in Lucas' trophy in Smash 4 in Japanese, but isn't in the English version.
Relatedly, I was irritated when Toby Fox was the sole person whose message appeared at the MOTHER 2 anniversary concert. While I'm sure he's a fine person, I thought, "Come on, really?! Do I have to be reminded even here?"
Undertale deserves its accolades, and I'm thankful for the encouragement it's given to independent developers. But it's not for me, and I'm frustrated that it's indelibly linked to the MOTHER series I cherish. I'd like a space to talk about MOTHER without UT/DT creeping in, but that's not possible.
A good example of a character being based on the likeness of a celebrity is with Bronson, very clearly based on the actor Charles Bronson!
not to "urm actually", but during development of the N64 version, it was mentioned at least once that many of the Tazmily villagers' likenesses were based on celebrities. Therefore, Flint probably *was* based on Clint Eastwood to some extent.

-purposes of producing a localisation prototype." Despite EB's reception in the US, they did seem to want to release Mother 3 in English too. Just… when it became a GBA game, they changed their minds.
Interestingly, they did bother a little bit with Mother 3, back when it was being made for N64. They had pages on their website with an official localised name for it, and a former NoA employee even alleged that "At least two prototype copies were sent to Nintendo of America in early 2000, for the-

During an interview at E3 1997, Benimaru Itoh stated EarthBound 64 was once planned support multiplayer. However, it was scrapped early on due to technical complications. There is nothing viewable of this multiplayer build of the game online.

It's wild to me that Benimaru Itoh and Toshinao Aoki didn't even get a special thanks credit in the final cut of Mother 3. Even if you despise how the N64 version looked, they still arguably laid vital groundwork for what the character and enemy designs would evolve into.
These aren't new to the internet or anything but I just dug out these Mother 3 screenshots from 1997, I heard Bluesky likes Mother 3
I've uploaded something new, check out the story of how the EB64 community helped to preserve lots of EarthBound 64's concept art!

We did technically get a little better quality version a few years ago, but it's certainly not as good quality as the version Frank posted: www.youtube.com/watch?v=1W_6...
Still funny that they couldn't think to maybe show a little bit more than just 3 seconds (particularly since they just recycled this footage from the previous year's Spaceworld)
Please enjoy this nearly three seconds of footage from the original Mother 3, newly captured off of a tape we're working with
