"In the last election, one of the slogans [the Carney Liberals] put in all of their ads was ‘get government back in the business of building housing.’ One year in, governments back in the business of building housing is still left to be unseen.”

Pull quote from an article titled "Floor-Crossing vs. Party-Democracy" by Joseph Gubbels, published at perspectivesjournal.ca. The quote reads "Only one year since Prime Minister Mark Carney was left with a minority government after the 2025 election, the governing Liberals have achieved a majority, delivered by five Members of Parliament who "crossed the floor." To minimize floor-crossing episodes, a "party-democracy model" can leverage existing political institutions to make Canadian politics more deliberative and participatory."
Examining the intense debate over floor-crossing, @josephgubbels.bsky.social argues for a "party-democracy model" — to leverage existing political institutions and make Canada’s democracy more deliberative and participatory.

A Question in italics reads "What role does social democracy play in combatting right-wing extremism?" An aswer from Annemarie Wolff, Member of the State Parliament of Brandenburg, Germany, reads, "We social democrats always talk about how the fight against right-wing extremism is part of our political DNA. However, many rightly wonder what exactly that means." The graphic also features a URL to perspectivesjournal.ca

At the 2026 Progress Summit, David Adler explained why local struggles must connect to global progressive movements.
Given Canada's proximity to the US and the US' massive cultural influence, why have the main contours of Canadian politics been historically to the left of the US?
Our answer to this intriguing question can be summed up in two words: social democracy.
Bill C-5 has the potential to create deeper institutional fragility.
It consolidates power away from independent regulators and empowers the Cabinet. Such political decisions could impact investment, prolong litigation over Section 35 rights, and fracture Reconciliation efforts.
